Guest peter4pm Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 As of next year im starting the racing , ive had pigeons since i was 15 ..now 43 ..but its always been fancy birds....Anyways im starting of small ..got about 30 birds coming in and out just now..a few a yearlings i got last year ..and the rest are this years birds..all unrung.Im wondering what would be the best way to find out whats worth holding on to in the long run for breeding next year ...is there any signs i should look for regards..Quality ect ect . And advice on the racing game itself would be appreciated ...what system is best for a newby like me?What sort of clock to get ?? and how to opperate one?? I will be joining my local club as of december...but im still really new to all the different things envolved ...i listen to some of the other guys talking about federations and stuff and i havent got the sightest clue lol Peter
billt Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Best way would be to get in touch with a local club and hope that someone will act as a mentor for advice, The only way you can determine whether a pigeon is any good is to race it, there are a lot of nice looking pigeons out there that don't perform well, Good Luck

Tony C Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 You may not be racing old birds next year but you should turn up on marking nights. Show them your willing to do your bit and whilst there put as many pigeons through as you can. By handling these pigeons you'll get a feel of type, condition, racing weight etc. taking note of the feel of the top flyers pigeons.
