ritchie1 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 burn then bleach the lot over night then clean and dry thats you sorted
Roland Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Same as Jimmy ... then Virkons regularly, every time I think about it. Also whaere applicable NOW I soak the loft with Bleach. Then Blow Torch and then Paint before mating up preferably. Will this year also inject for Para... as I believe that 1 in three lofts at least have Samonella or such. Trouble is many are just carriers and too many don't even realise it exists let alone think about checking OR even treating.
Guest Owen Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I use the square shaped guttering I got from a recycle yard. You can either make your own end pieces of buy them from a DIY store. I screw some cross pieces to the ends so that the birds can not tip them. These are easy to keep clean and light to store away. I don't like wood because it is absorbant and almost impossible to keep clean.
greenlands Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 soak in bleach then let it dry ,, just one of many ways,, That's what I do,at the mo I use box shaped conduit, once every two week sprayed with domestos and allowed to dry. Handy to have is an empty spray bottle quarter fill with domestos and topped up with water, also ideal for cleaning tea stained cups or vacuum flasks with. Lindsay.

Come to think of it, if one fixed a 4 -5 inch block and placed another strip upside down, then it would also serve as a guard from pooing in tem as such. Will have to get the son - in - law working this week - end lol.
Guest rodders Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 just bought 2 plastic feeders from taylors corn very impressed with them lot easier to clean if you use oil and powder on corn only problem is the size bit big if you have small sections shame they only do the one size
Guest bakes Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 i wash my down in f10 avian disinfectant good stuff all the best
Guest IB Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 As soon as anything new has been used in your own loft, it becomes second-hand. I believe you have to clean before disinfecting, otherwise the disinfectant might get neutralised, so for me that would be a first a good scrub in hot soapy water , probably using household washing-up liquid, always to hand. Followed by immersion in whatever disinfectant was available. You may have Domestos around the house - its a bleach, sodium hypochlorate, (also whitens wood); or one of the veterinary ones like Virkon or Vanodine; or the gardening one, Jeyes Fluid. All of them can be used.
