I have a few youngens that have been on darkness,at the moment they are doing my head in racing the skies for upto a hour diving at the loft and off again.I have stopped racing because of early YBS,BOP,heavy losses in the Fed and stupid racing weather + I want some yearlings for next season. What's your opinion, would you keep them in and try to get them into the moult or have you some other methods that you would care to share. Is it too soon to start keeping them in ?.Do you put them on semi darkness.Butter milk ? Sedochol ? Or any other info that might help me win a race or two with my yearlings right through the moult.

All help appreciated.

When wer yer younguns bred Lindsay?. If bred in december there is no probs shuttin them up and feedin seed tae push them thru the moult. If they are gan well roon the hoose then just leave them tae do it natural. Have you read up on the light system for autumn?

id keep training them to be honest, and regularly, if they dont have plenty of basketing experience, i feel you will feel the after effects next season. I've known fanciers not to race ybs, and following season there yearlings flew exceptional, however they vigerously trained, and would go training short at least 3 times a week, and one long one 100 miles. But i wouldnt stop them training untill the end of the race programme my opinion. Then id lock them up for a month, and fed a very light mixture nearly 100% barley, to give the moult a kick start, with garlic in the water to the following season. after the month put onto a good moulting mix

I canny see much point in trainin if your no gan tae increase in distance over 80 miles. If they are March bred on darkness I must admit I would be tempted tae get back on the road wae them.

if you keep letting them out you will loose some but it will get them sky wise to

the bops, I agree with the comments earlier keep them going if there OK, after
