I was looking at this Article posted by Vallance. This is a symptom of Young Bird Sickness, but it isn’t YBS. It’s Mycosis. What is Mycosis?

Due to the abuse of medicine more and more birds suffer from Mycosis.

 

Such birds have no appetite and in the crops is too much water or feed that is not digested. In extreme cases the symptoms are similar to those of Adeno Coli which is confusing for many fanciers.

Its fungal infection isn't it - very common in humans just with one course of antibiotics - there doesn't have to be any 'abuse' for it to happen

Doe's anyone know of a natural anti fungal to save using anti biotics.

Hi Sue,mine get most of them at one time or other,give them a dose of mycostatin and they are different birds.

Never tried zinc supplement though,will have a read up on that.

I think most give 10 ml/litre,i'm a 5ml man but 3 or 4 times a week.

when a bird has been holding water in its crop its usually that there hasbeen/is an infection lower in the body which then causes the bird to have a kind of blockage from the infection(exit from the crop) ,thus halting any movement of food or liquid into the system..1st thing dehydration takes place

this is why when the problem is advanced, its unlikely that medication through the crop will work.

so an injection(antibiotic) into the keel area is administered.

similar to sour crop.
