john cumming Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 How many tosses have you had ????????????????? like you say davy how many tosses has he had, 2 or 3 from 26 miles should be fine or if they are coming well enough. i had 6 tosses in all2 from 6 miles 2 from 20 miles and 2 from 30 miles before the 1st race at 66 miles , 2 races in and dropped just 2
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 Had my first young bird race last week, they were trained to about 35 miles, coast and inland - but in previous years we have only managed to get them to 25 miles, and they were fine
Henrik Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Had my first Y/b race last week. Only 1 toss from bout 5mls then into 61mls race finished 2nd and dropped one. Not the ideal prep I know but I dont drive and my mate couldnt get the week off to toss them as we usually do,but has all worked out so far touch wood
Guest strapper Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 i wouldnt stop training when you start racing, youngbirds need to be constantly reminded they are racing home and not just flying home.education is everything when they are young..they will race ok but fall at the wayside when they face a tough one if not educated.
nickiclark Posted July 27, 2010 Author Report Posted July 27, 2010 i have only had 2 26 mile tosses but not had much time now
sapper756 Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 i have only had 2 26 mile tosses but not had much time now Patience is a virtue m8, do not be too eager to make the first race, give your youngsters a fair chance, and give them more training tosseshttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif

Our good friend doesnt train young birds after the first race, never stopped him winning the NRCC numerous times from there young bird race.
