duncandoo Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 hi my english partners in sport, you see the losses that we in lanarkshire are experiencing, our national race from bovingdon was a bit of a disaster for a lot of flyers, with very few lucky flyers all home, how is your returns from the north, have you a lot of empty perches down there
Tony C Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 I'm two 2 year old pigeons short from 19 sent, we were at Retford and libbed at 07:00hrs. I wouldn't mind betting these ended up in Scotland.
duncandoo Posted June 8, 2010 Author Report Posted June 8, 2010 I'm two 2 year old pigeons short from 19 sent, we were at Retford and libbed at 07:00hrs. I wouldn't mind betting these ended up in Scotland.there has been mention of half of our national race from bovingdon is missing, and that is from an entry of five thousand five hundred birds, where is all these birds as very few seem to get reported, where are they all, are the fields from scotland down to england covered in the carcasses of our birds with all the smashes the high and low flying, theory goes out of the window when there is no wind,a recipe for disaster, as our last no wind at race point ended in a lot of empty perches,i think we all have to get together and address this problem before our great sport becomes a minority sport
Guest stb- Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 maby budgies % rule kicks in on them days ,but i think the answer lyes with the rapid recovery of peregrines ans goshawks myself , every second trainer now your birds are scattered and your getting a good few back from races thats been hawked most weeks now . these bassas will finnish racing pigeons FACT
Guest Blaydon Racer Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 The NEHU organisations were at Clermont for the Queens cup race at the weekendThe winning velocity's were in the 1500's but the returns are dreadful THe pigeons must have clashed with either the Dutch or Belgian birds as a lot of very experienced good birds never made homeI got 2 back out of 7 and talking to some of the lads they have 5 back out of 20 etc--there must be thousands still missing
Guest spin cycle Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 havn't dropped any racing dunbar sent 12 and perth 16. having said that the winds been good and i'm at fraserburgh this weekend..so i've probably jinxed myself.

Guest spin cycle Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 My theory is based on Winning pigeons not Homers which our Lofts used to be filled with. do you mean , over the years, homing ability has been sacrificed trying to breed faster winning pigeons ?
Tony C Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 do you mean , over the years, homing ability has been sacrificed trying to breed faster winning pigeons ? I appreciate this was for Budgie to answer but I believe this statement to be correct.
Guest spin cycle Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 budgie may be right..but i've only been in it for five years so don't know. touchwood i seem to be loosing less than i did when i started (despite racing further)...i put this down to understanding fitness better now. i often wonder how those WW2 pigeons on subs got home...weeks below decks (fit??) then released into bad conditions.
JADE Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 definitely not all down to bop otherwise why does it not happen every week. i guess its the weather conditions i.e thundery atmosphere, heat and no wind which for some reason pigeons dont like yet it doesnt affect all of them. yes there are thousands of birds missing and some good ones at that by what i hear. will certainly affect the entry for the channel races i would think
Delboy Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Got one from Bovingdon reported in Northern Ireland today, broken leg and flown out.The fella contacted me and is a credit to our sport as he is nursing it back to health before we decide on how to get it back to me.
