We give a small amount of a mixture of trapping mix & peanuts evertime they home from the basket in training or the race (they get a bit more from the race). ;)

i give maybe 2 - 3 per bird, but no more as too many is not good.......also they need to be fresh as they can get mould on them if a few days old. :D

I kibble the peanuts and mix them with Red Band, Sunflower Hearts and Hormoform, more or less equal measures. The birds get it every night, about a handful per 8 birds in the section. They also get it on arrival from races, 1/2 handful Each.

I find peanuts an essential part of my routine. Every time the cocks go into their boxes they get one or two. I never let them down and they know that they will get their reward so they behave really well. Trapping is never a problem.

Think thats the whole point they love them, but full of fat so go easy just give them as a treat or when they do as they are told.

Question?.Ive had pigeons on and off for 50 years.Peanuts why do pigeons love them so much. The taste buds are in the mouth the peanuts have a skin over them so in order to taste they must be kibbled. When put into a blender they sound like a machine gun. However back to the point, can anyone tell me what is the stimuli to make the peanuts irristable.Does sugar ooz out.You see young peaple drinking from bottles if only they knew the drink inside when bottled over flows and rats lick the tops of the bottle.Do the pigeons taste the skins of the peanuts.I have been told its the rareity factor ie few in the mix im havig them couple on nest box front must be good etc.
