Well I did it, I took my five Ybs I bought in March for the first release at half 8 this morning, I took the the amazing distance of 1.1 miles. It took the 2 hours to get back but all are in safely. I have been flying the birds after tea time and feeding them when they trap, should I now be releasing them at the same time ? and how long before I go to five miles ?

well id take them back to the same spot to build their confidence up if they are taking 2 hours to get home from 1.1 mile then i wouldnt have thought they are ready to go any further just yet, at least youve still got all your yb,s and as they say patience is a virtue you can take them 5 miles next time dave 1.1 mile isnt far but i know fanciers who release their yb,s from their back gardens on the 1st toss just to get them used to flying from basket to loft good luck mate kev

i would have thought your ybs didn't take 2 hours at all... i think it more likely they flashed over the loft , turned and went roaming. when i started it was about building my own confidence as well as the birds...so IMO take the distance up slowly . enjoy starting up its freat fun. best of luck :D

They seem to be ok Dave, yes they took 2 hours but Id say they just went off on their own flying.

If they have been ranging dont worry about distance, whatever you want to do is fine you have loads of time, just get them used to training and the basket.

Good luck and enjoy.

well done dave,, they would learn more in this two hours than if they had done it in a minute lol,,, i would agree with the above post,, as you only have a few yb,s , just take it easy with them, build their confidence up slowly, best make sure they have learned to drink from the basket first, and gain confidence in the basket , without getting stressed, good luck

I agree with spin cycle on this one Dave. 2 hours doesn't mean they've been lost it means they've been out learning and playing..they're youngsters!!!

Maybe take them a bit further next time but increase the distance gradually.

If they took 2 hours they probs were flying around your loft ranging, they normally range that far out anyway!
