Guest speckled Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Hi Bart,so ya looking for pigeons for the short to middle distance them.check ya local fancier, who have been winning at fed level,if not look in the BHW or RP,as the end of the seasons racing is apon us & there are lots os sales about this time of year,so ya could pick up a bargain,or to . Think befoe ya bye.Speckled
PIGEON_MAN Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 I WOULD SUGGEST THAT IF YOU ARE BUYING BIRDS TO RACE YOU MIGHT JUST AS WELL HAVE SOME FROM MASSARELLAS THEY WILL COST YOU A LOT LESS THAN BUYING FROM SOMEONE LIKE M + D EVANS OR WOOLF BROTHERS AND YOU PROBABLE HAVE AS MUCH CHANCE OF FINISHING UP WITH A FEW GOOD ONES AT THE END OF THE SEASON AT A MUCH LOWER COST.IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY BIRDS FOR STOCK BE VERY VERY CAREFULL BECAUSE ASK YOURSELF THIS WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MINDS WILL SELL YOU BIRDS THAT ARE BREEDING WINNERS UNLESS THEY ARE PACKING UP AND YOU CAN GET THEIR BREEDERS BEFORE ANYONE ELSE.
carl Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 If i was to start all over again i wouldnt buy birds for stock i would buy them to race then breed from them when they have proved themselfs.Get looking around your area for the fancier flying the best birds at the moment and buy from them, not too close to home as you want there best..
Guest Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 WOOFF BROS NEW OLLERTON NOTTS what strain do they fly ?
Guest Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 tony /anne mardon without dout they are simpley the best just pure qaulity
Guest slugmonkey Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 I agree with Carl buy a couple of kits ( from diffrent breeders ) and race them then breed what you have left unless you have a lot of money and can afford to buy a set of proven breeders DON'T worry about strain worry about winning!!!
Guest Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Here I go again, lol, with the distances you are flying I would definately go for Van Reets
westburylofts Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 I would go for the Van-Reet's or Van Loon's for the distances that you have said. this is only my veiw RAY
westburylofts Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 The best fancier you can find that is winning now at the race points that you will be raceing with your own club / fed ray
Guest Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 MAYBE GET A VAN SOMETHING AT THE PIGEONBASICS AUCTION RAY.
westburylofts Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 COULD DO WITH A NEW VAN LOL RAY

T_T Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 Bart, it's each to his own. One mans drink is another mans poison. I will only say that the best pigeons I own, have been GIVEN to me by friends. I have tried many families. You will always have different pigeons winning but for myself it has to be the Busschaerts. I think the best family ever. The Maurice Verheyes were another good all round family.
swilcox Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 Hello Bart I hope you dont mind me joining this discussion! I have not long restarted after selling my team at auction and i asked myself the same questions as you did! I looked at what i did right before and what didnt work for me! I beleive the most important thing to me is choice, when i established my team before i visited Bert Hession from Blackpool, he simply put me in a section of 40 ybs and said choose your own, on that 1st visit i choose 2 cocks Champion Pied Producer and Champion White Eyes. Now before that day i would often have birds arrive in a box or would pick up the odd pigeon in an auction! Some have suggested contacting local fanciers but how many of them will let you go home with what you want!! Most will give you there cast offs, its human nature. Going back to Bert Hession if he had sent me 4 down in a box it probaly wouldnt have been that 4 and there were pigeons in that section that i didnt like. So my advice would be go to a fancier or stud that will give you choice, take an experienced friend if needed but choose what you like and what you are comfortable working with because Pigeon Racing is a tough sport and as any tradesman you need to enjoy your tools that you craft. Another thing pigeon families that won yesterday will still win tomorrow, dont pay though the noise for pigeons just because they are trendy, : so long as they are from a winning line and you like them they are worth your dedication!!!
