I can see where frustration is creeping in here from both sides of the coin. Personally I'm going through the same thing here.  Most of our clubmates like the distance flying which is their choice.  I feel that all the flyers wishes should be taken into consideration as well as the long haul boys.  I would dearly love to fly my Van Reets week after week in the C release from 125 miles, but the club has a 5 bird limit on this race, which I feel is off the wall, when the truck goes down the road half empty , plus most of the flyers send "trainers" to the 125 mile race point. to be released 1/2 houir after the race birds go up.  Why can't they open the limit so the trainers can be released with the race birds and people who have sprinters can enjoy the type of racing that they choose, needless to say the Long Haul races are unlimited.  They won't change for anything as they say this is the way it was always done.  But I'll keep on bugging them <VBG>

MIKE,WHY THE NEED TO LEVIE SURELY THE SAVINGS THAT WILL BE MADE BY NOT GOING ABROAD WOULD MORE THAN PAY FOR ANY LOSS OF BIRDAGE THAT MIGHT OCCUR IF WE WENT NORTH PERSONNALLY I THINK THE CLUB WOULD BE VERY WELL SUPPORTED WITH A LOT OF OTHER FEDS NOW TAKING THE DECISION TO GO THAT WAY,BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW WELL IT,S SUPPORTED BY JUST GOING TO THE COAST AS SOMEONE ON HERE SAID 147 MILES WILL BE THEIR LONGEST RACE,FOR A NATIONAL WHEN IT COULD HAVE BEEN 4 OR 500 MILES.

HYACINTH,THE MNFC AS ALLREADY MADE THEIR DECISION BUT I WOULD SURE LIKE THE REST OF THE BIG ORGANISATIONS TO ASK THE MEMBERSHIP HOW THEY FELT,PERHAPS THE NFC,BICC,CSCFC AND THE MCC WOULD CONSIDER THIS BUT I DOUBT IT VERY VERY MUCH.

So why do none of the organisations consider it then Tony?  Have we ALL got it so very very wrong

It's a financial disaster waiting to happen.

The MNFC will stipulate something like "if we don;t get 5,000 birds for the1st race then we'll cancel the programme"...   That's the responsble thing to do. At the MCC we cannot afford any loss.  No Feds I know are going North. Our Worcester Fed and all theo ther West Midalnds Feds are all going south.

Here in warwickshire our local club are stuck in no mans land have flown with a variety of feds. Local opinion is if we turn our birds north keep training the same way as they've gone previously. My birds go where ever my truck goes north east south or west. Mike Young from Timsbury told me his birds were trained, an hours fly into the wind. Last year we had too many young birds to go with MNFC so I sent them 60 mls split in two groups all went up single up coming home from different directions. Result got the lot. Cost a fortune with MNFC. Good distance birds can do it.

It would seem that the main concern for a lot of organisations is economics, short distance programmes will fill the coffers, but to what end ? There are an awful lot of fanciers who are quite happy with short to middle distance racing, but I fail to see how they can't have a programme with longer distance racing when it is so easily available with the North route. If you are unwilling to risk your better birds on an unfamiliar route you can keep them to the shorter distance races that should be available. Anyone who thinks they are teaching pigeons to home are sadly mistaken, all we can do is teach them to race. If all Feds pick short distance programmes all I hope is that  members have enough room to build loft extensions to accomodate next years yearlings because there will be no room in the OB racing lofts.

Hey jons pigeons

If you want to have a pop at me do it on here where every one can see not pm, I normally race from 77mls to 530 mls  so im not a sprint man i am alround they all want winning to me. I also think we have some of the best national/classic flyers in yorkshire and sprint

Take a minute to think of the people making the decisions, they are trying to pick the lesser of two evils. If a club with members in every part of the country has a race from a part of that country there is no way that it is a fair or open 'national' race. The only decision to get a 'fair national' race if we cant get any channel racing would be to go north.

Anyhow, lets be glad that we can have this argument, and that it looks like we >will< get some racing! In the end, if a number of clubs go north and a number go into cornwall, its each of ours, the fanciers decision with which they send.

Mike - correct me if I am wrong but the "lunacy" statement that you posted was purely down to the financial consequences of turning North and nothing to do with the ability of the fancier or his pigeons.

None of the national/classic clubs can afford not to have the full support of its members by way of birdage otherwise they might not be in existance the following year.

Whats the alternative in an exceptional situation like this one - Perhaps they should cancel all nationals/classics this year, freeze the assetts of the clubs and return to normal the following year - I THINK NOT.

I for one am happy to make the most of what weve got because it means SURVIVAL

through finacial security.
