Diamond dave Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Just wondered what everyone thought is the trickiest conditions for racing.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 DEPENDS ON THE BIRD IN MY OPINION, WHAT COULD BE HARD FOR ONE COULD BE EASY FOR ANOTHER.BUT ULTIMATELY IT IS THE WEATHER THAT IS THE DECIDING FACTOR.
peterpau Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 Dead sky with no wind can be very difficult
Mike Lycett Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 Like we had on Saturday Full cloud cover, restricted visibility, bit of East in the wind, early season - BEGGING for problems & we got 'em
Diamond dave Posted April 19, 2006 Author Report Posted April 19, 2006 I've always found those problems in a "variable"wind. Mike - do you send your yearlings in these early races?
square_peg Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 VERY STRONG TAIL WIND SHOULD BE EASY BUT YEARLINGS ALLWAYS STRUGGLE ALMOST EVERY TIME AN OLD TIMER WINS THE RACE YOUNGSTERS NEVER LIKE A LEADEN SKY ALWAYS A STEAR UP WHEN WE GET THAT
Pompey Mick Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 I've always found that the SE wind produces the worst conditions here on the South Coast, it always seems to be a 'dirty' wind with lots of pollution from the Continent producing murky conditions.
Tony C Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 When the sky is the same colour as the Thames, we're in trouble :o
AlanWilkins Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 Sky wind rain dont matter you start waiting for um n these no wild birds flying about you can bet your in for a thumping. Those are the ones i worrie about
Mike Lycett Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 Agree with aln re: the wild birds... Dave - our yearlings will be introduced into the programme on 29th april
johnny11 Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 Did folks experience a tricky race on saturday. We Did! North Wirral Fed
rlez Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 Did folks experience a tricky race on saturday. We Did! North Wirral Fed hi john we were up at 12 had all my 8 birds b4 i went to clocks at 3.30 les
Guest Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 The UNC held over till sunday as it was the exact type of day as described above, dead still and not a wild bird to be heard. We were liberated on sunday and had good returns with all birds coming on a direct line of flight due to a strong west wind. Totally agree with the still day theory and you can always tell when you are going to have bad returns when you see birds going in all directions. Another type of weather is just before a thunder storm and there is static in the air, but any convoyer liberating on a day when thunder is expected shouldnt be in the job.
speedbird Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 had a treadfull race sat with bad returns think no sun poor visibility with north east wind asking for problems
Guest Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 It was the same for use for our Bourges race Rose, and we had a terrible race, I didnt get one till 2pm the next day, but I suppose thats always going to be our problem with channel racing, to get perfect weather over that distance takes some doing. I was told that our convoyer got so much stick last year that he will not liberate this year unless he sees blue sky at the race point. I would'nt do a convoyers job for all the money in the world.
Guest Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 That must have been the same weekend as ours, we were held at bourges 3 days, so our birds were in the basket for 5 days then released in to a strong head wind, which I felt was cruelty.
Mike Lycett Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 John Loadsa Feds had bad racing on Saturday. Earlier they went the more thwy struggled - generally speaking of course
