Its not always 'bout knowing, if the Scot Exec say Birds to be kept in well thats it ...doesnt matter what Union ur in. It may be stupid but it was a Government directive and there was no choice. Now that we have a bit of slack we should prove to the authorities that we r handling this sensibly and can be trusted. Like we know Pigeons are low risk an that its not in the food chain etc etc so i guess we have to grin n bear it and be nice  grrrrr

The thing is though Fifer, is there anyone that really knows what is going on, there is many that think they do. No point in worrying about something we cannot control.

Bruno - could you clarify what you mean about the Cumbrian Fed

Cheers

Chris

Understand Forth Bridges club is affiliated to Cumbria Fed, Chris.

Falkirk Council wouldn't have knocked out the whole of any of the Feds (or even the whole of some  Clubs) mentioned, only those fanciers within the Council's boundaries -like me for example!

YEAH THATS WHAT WE WERE TOLD AT A MEETING ON MONDAY EVENING

ALL SYSTEMS GO ON SUNDAY 7TH     ANYBODY BEEN TOLD DIFFERENT

Would check the source because the information given out at the news conference on 8th April was different:-

Snippet on BBC News24 today, following news conference in Perth:

Should there be no further instances of H5N1 found within the quarantine zone from 30 days following the find of the dead infected swan on 31st March, then the current zones (and their restrictions) will be ended.

Now I reckoned going by that the restrictions ended at the end of April. I know the order was signed 5/6th April, but strange how 30 days was linked to the find, rather than the signing, at the 8th April conference?

AGREED BRUNO   BUT WE WERE TOLD THIS BY OUR FED PRESIDENT  SO WE GO WITH WHAT WE ARE TOLD

AS PRESIDENT OF MY CLUB I ALLWAYS MAKE SURE OF MY FACTS   SO I TAKE WHAT HE SAYS AS FACT     HIS INFO CAME FROM DEFRA ( I THINK)

ANY OTHER FEDS IN THE ZONE BEEN TOLD WHEN TO START TRAINING

BEST THING TO DO IS ASK THE SHU    :)

LOOKING AT THE FORUM, LOOKS LIKE FIFE-KING HAS WENT QUIET WHEN HE WAS ASKED TO NAME AND SHAME THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE TRAINING THE BIRDS, WELL WHO ARE THEY AND WHERE ARE THEY FROM, WHAT AREA, HE ALSO MENTIONED FIE FED MEMBERS, WELL THEN FIFE-KING WHATS THE STORY THEN..............MAYBE ITS ABOUT TIME THAT CERTAIN PEOPLE ON THE FORUM THINK ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE WRITING ABOUT BEFORE SOMEONE FROM THE OUT-SIDE WORLD GETS HOLD OF INFORMATION THAT COULD MAKE IT WORSE RATHER THAN BETTER.

DANDYDOO I DONT THINK ITS UP TO YOU TO FIND OUT AND REPORT, LET FIFE-KING DOO THE REPORTING AS HE WAS THE ONE WHO HAS BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE FORUM MEMBERS, AND WHO ELSE HAS ACCESS TO A PC THAT HAS NOTHING TO DOO WITH RACING PIGEONS, FIFE-KING YOU SHOULD EITHER REPORT THESE MEMBERS TO THE SECRETARY OF THE FED, OR EVEN BETTER GET IN TOUCH WITH THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING WHAT YOU SAY AND EXPLAIN TO THEM IF THEY DONT ALREADY NO THE POSITION FOR NO TRAINING AS YET, UNTIL WE GET THE GREEN LIGHT.

Bird flu restrictions to be ended

The bird flu restrictions put in place after the discovery of a dead swan at Cellardyke in Fife are to be lifted.

Scotland's First Minister Jack McConnell told parliament that the immediate 3km (1.9mls) protection zone will be removed 22nd April

The wider 10km (6.2mls) surveillance zone will be lifted 1st May

Mr McConnell praised the work of vets and other officials who, he said, reacted quickly and efficiently to what could have been a serious outbreak

Brilliant news, but odd no mention on the Wild Bird Zone?

does quickly and efficienltlymean birds lying for a week ,because they could not be retrieved from the water as there was no boat , this happened on loch leven, and up north , i distinctly remember a gamekeeper on the tv , about the lengh of time a swan lay dead in a loch ,

TAKEN FROM THE SUN NEWSPAPER :

SCIENTISTS claim to have discovered a soap which can kill bird flu virus.

They say no germs handwash destroys 99.8% of bugs , including the H5N1 strain of avian flu.

Experts warn that bird flu can enter the body through hand to mouth contact.

The soap, made in the UK by London based Advanced Formulations, was tested at the University of London.

Bird Flu is threatening the start of the pigeon racing season in Scotland.

Thousands of birds have been confined too cages since the H5N1 virus was found in a swan in Cellardyke , Fife , 2 weeks ago. The whole county had been declared a " Wild bird risk area "

hello all my first post so here goes

I emailed the scottish executive early today for a date of the possible ending of the current zones and this was there reply

                         Thursday, 20 April, 2006

EASING OF AVIAN INFLUENZA RESTRICTIONS

Subject to no further cases of High Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1 being found, the Scottish Executive is working on the following assumption:

The Wild Bird Protection Zone put in place on 5 April following confirmation of highly pathogenic H5 Avian Influenza in a Whooper swan in Cellardyke harbour will be lifted at 00.01 on 22 April.  This is 21 full days after samples were taken from the wild swan.

The Wild Bird Protection Zone will then become part of the Wild Bird Surveillance Zone.  Restrictions on the movement of poultry and other captive birds remain in force but controls on movement of poultry products within this area will cease.

Following completion of a programme of veterinary inspections, with negative results, of all premises with poultry in the Wild Bird Surveillance Zone and taking account of epidemiological advice, restrictions imposed in this zone, will be lifted at 00.01 on 1 May.

It is intended that the Wild Bird Risk Area (east of the M90/A90 stretching from the Forth Bridge to Stonehaven) will lapse at the same time as the Wild Bird Surveillance Zone on 1 May subject to a veterinary risk assessment.

NOTES TO NEWS EDITORS

1.     The Wild Bird Protection Zone covers an area of 3 km radius from the site where the dead swan was found.  The Wild Bird Surveillance Zone covers an area of 10 km radius from the site where the dead swan was found.

2.     The Wild Bird Protection and Surveillance Zones were made under the Avian Influenza (H5N1 in Wild Birds) (Scotland) Order 2006.

3.     The Wild Bird Risk Area was made under the Avian Influenza (Preventative Measures) (Scotland) Regulations.
