pender Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 This year most of my eggs have been brittle with streaks of blood, on them even the ones that are not have had these faint streaks thru them. Now the have a well balanced mixture with most grains in it. kilpatrick grit and black minerals, natural clay blocks and de pantagon bucket with mineral vitamin and grit. but still the eggs are the same. anybody know what it is. plus i dont over medicate .
REDCHEQHEN Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 According to the Pigeon Management book - calcium deficiency seems tha most likely
Guest Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 Try and get some calcium glucomate from any farming supply store, it's very cheap and a drop in the water once a week during breeding season should cure your problem
jimmy white Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 its quite usual for yearlings laying their first eggs to have streaks of blood on them, but im not sure what you mean by" brittle" did the eggs hatch ok?
Guest Silverwings Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 sounds like something may be extracting the nutrients before the pigeons do ? may be a higher than normal cocci count ? get a test done also i find that moistening the grains with a little olive or primrose oil does wonders for laying hens ,according to your feed aditives there should be no lack of calcium ...ray
Chris Little Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 Pender A few weeks before pairing up we give the hens Osteocare in the water every weekend right up to when they are coupled. It is a calcium supplement with a bit of magnesium and other trace elements. It can be obtained from your local pharmacy.
peterpau Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 I too would go for calcium. I would look at oystershell grit though
superstar Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 When the hens are due to lay put milk in the water, a cup full to a 5pt drinker i use, you wont get no bad shelled eggs or post egg laying weakness then. And like the man says Oystershell grit.
