Difficult one Westy you can either wait n see if he comes out faling that you have t knock a hole in the wall where you can hear him n get him out that way. Think he will come out on his own though.

If your house is an upstairs downstairs one there may be boarded up fireplaces in the upstairs bedrooms and he may be behind one of them. Local fire brigace may help.

Westy, the torch is so that if he can't see the light from the chimney at the top end, he may see the light at the bottom and come out, sometimes the insides of chimneys in the loft area are zig - zagged and at an angle, the bird could be perched on one of the bricks

I had it happen to me.  Took a few bricks from the chimney breast at bedroom floor level, shone a torch down and spotted the pigeon.  I nailed a piece of wood 6" x 6" onto a piece of 1" x 1" dropped it into tho hole that I had made and the pigeon ( a pied cock ) jumped on it and I pulled him clear.  Have had my chimney pots capped since then.
