Guest jason Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 I can't tell you how to race your birds but I'm gonna tell you my master plan. This year I'm back, (I've just had a year out due to baby being born) and more motivated than ever, think thats why I dealt with the daily star performance so well!, anyway here goes, I have 24 young birds weaned about a week ago, since then i've spent 1 1/2 hours with them at the same time every morning and every night, they are very very tame, I have cleaned the loft every morning and evening with disinfectant and blow torch they are absolutly cracking i've kept them on multivitamins for the whole week and on friday night at 6.30 I put them in the basket overnight with water on. I'm gonna do the above every day and friday basket them overnight as they'll get used to it. now as they're getting a bit older and learning to fly, I sit on the front of the loft so I'm never out of site. I also check their droppings with microscope every day now the question is will, I win any races if there are any races??????? and the answer is, who knows????but I thought I'd share my ideas!
Guest jason Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 oh forgot to add, they are on fresh cooled boiled water every morning and afternoon
Diamond dave Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 Sounds good Jas. - hope you are rewarded for your efforts - Good Luck!!!!
square_peg Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 the one and only thing with youngsters is ,keep them healthy, when they are healthy you can get them fit with a bit of training, then if your youngsters have any thing about them you have as much chance as any body else.without health there is nowt you can do with them.best o luck LUCK that is the one thing we cant give our doo's but it's the one thing we all need
Guest jason Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 master plan update; 32 young birds all on darkness system, they're flying about 45 minutes every morning and evening, can't fault them at all. ;D plan must be working lol. I'll put some photos in members photos bit, tommorow.
Keepsmilingqueen Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 that sounds like a cracker of a plan as a healthy bird is a winning bird, but do you have time to eat, sleep, work e.ct, id feel like my eye was permenantly glued to the microscope and my hand to the blow torch !! at the min i check under the microscope once a week and the same goes for the blowtorch ;D (i have not set fire to the loft as of yet, but there is still time, i have almost set fire to my hair once or twice tho lol) i am hoping that my mum and i will have more sucsess with the young birds as it seems to depend less on systems and movivation tricks !! (at which we are failing dramatically) Since my father died in feb leaving us the birds, we are attempting to race out the season in his memory (alas out of 4 races we have gotten no where apart from 4th and 5th club in the 1st race) hoping for better luck with young ones !! but its the taking part that counts !! ;D keep up the master plan updates as the season progresses !!! and good luck with racing !!
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 HOPE YOU AND YOUR MUM DO HAVE SOME LUCK, YOU BOTH DESERVE IT.
Guest jason Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 do I have time to eat, sleep, work etc.?? I eat, sleep and work pigeons lol.
Guest jason Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 I'm still at it, birds are in top condition and I'm very pleased with them, they've had 2 25 mile training chucks so far but theres no rush (1st race 22nd july and its from stafford 62 miles). I started with 32, I've knocked a few on the head and lost 2 so now down to 26. photos to follow soon........... a very pleased ;D jason

pigeonpete Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 really hope you do well with them mate and hold on to them!! was just thinking that of mine last weekend when i had 53!!! what a difference a week makes hey!! :'(
Guest jason Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 when I started in 2000 I had 53 young birds and they were well trained up to 40 miles, I threw them all into the first race (stafford 62 miles) and I never, to this day, had a feather back and not one reported! it was gut wrenching. hope you get some more back! jason
pigeonpete Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 bloody hell jase mate bet it was !!! just goes to show does nt matter how well there trained! once there up in that big blue sky who know what happens to them?? :
Guest jason Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 yes pete, its all fun and games, I find it helps if you keep reminding yourself their not pets there in your loft to do a job and if they're not up to it then they're no good. I have one or two favourites but they're all treated the same and if they go,they go! jason p.s. I'll sort them photos now!
pigeonpete Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 o.k jase mate cool, dont treat em as pets but cant always blame the birds can we!! think i played a big part in it!! i i blame my self i wont make the same mistakes again!! live and learn hey!! :-/

Guest jason Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 poor do ray, anyway just shot myself in the foot. I've been telling you how pleased I am with the birds then took them 25 mile this morning and lost 6 so now I'm down to 20.! :'( :'( :'( I won't give up though jason
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 You're all putting me off training my young birds...! They have yet to have their first toss Weather awful today here anyway, tomorrow supposedly a south west wind, my idea is to let them out to range, they usually do 1 to 2 hours, trap them with a little seed, then basket them, take them 8 miles inland, let them out in 2 batches of 14, 5 minutes apart - and keep everything crossed ;D ;D ;D Please tell me if you think it a bad idea
robert.sutherland Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 there's nothing so weird as folk And pigeons if they were predictable it be boring Same sort of thing happened to me last year and this year From 59 y/b to 12 and that's including a stray that i got in two week ago it was only a five week old and the owner didnt have the funds to send for it SO what the hell ill give it a go seen as im desperate lol hope you all do well or at least better yours in sport BOB
superstar Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 Well when i was racing birds mine were taken and put up in any weather, boiling hot, rain, sleet, snow even fog. My way of thinking is, if they cant find their way home from a maximun of the 24 miles that i trained from, then they were no good to me! I have bred my lad whos 15 a batch to race this year as hes been pigeon mad all his life and wanted to have a go at it himself, he has had them trained everyday barring a saturday come what may for over a fortnight now. they have seen plenty of different weather in that short time from east winds, strong west winds, mist to thunderstorms and temps up to 30 degrees here in Herefordshire and all thats succumbed so far from his batch of 36 is 1, and that, if hes lucky will never be heard of again, not cause we dont care about the birds, but its better to think its died trying rather than couldnt stick the pace and parked its self up in someones garden. Today is very hot, humid and misty here in these here hills but they will be off 20 miles again later and if they dont come back it will be cheaper to keep them and there will be no tears shed cause if they are no good then they are better off gone. Im sure there will be plenty of comments that its taking the stuffing out the birds but its never done me any harm as i really have'nt lost that many, mind perhaps tonights the night you never know and thats what makes it interesting. Good luck to you all, and you have some fine looking birds there Jason it has to be said.
Guest jason Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 DISASTER THIS MORNING the y. birds have had 5x 25 mile training chucks and I've lost a few. this morning I took them again and lost another 6 and got 3 back with broken legs, they must have hit some wires or something. so now I'm down to 11 left out of 32. :'( :'( :'( jason
