mickmcgrevy Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 Hi Jimmy, to answer your original question, I am realy only interested in channel racing, and I don't believe that the birds have to built up gradually through the inland programme before you send them over the channel. My bird's first race, which would be with one of my local clubs, would be from about 140 to 170 miles, they may have two, then they would be sent over the channel to the first race with one of the classic / national clubs. To give you some idea of the distance, Nantes is 434 mile to my loft, once the birds start racing over the channel, they will have a race at least every two weeks, provided that they have not dropped on a bad race, I have in the past sent birds to 500 plus mile races two weeks on the trot, and had good results with them. At the end of the day it all depends on the bird and the type of race it encounters, I have timed on the day from 605 miles twice but it was a hell of a tail wind All the best Mick
ken Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 hi jimmy i still have my old bourges cock he flew it 5 times for me 15 th 23rd 24th 33rd & 44 comb he got 3 races evrey year 93 ml then 183ml then 250ml then into bourges 581ml cracking old bird
Chris Little Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 The pick of the bunch of our distance winners is our 2005 SNRPC Cholet national winner , a distance of 557 miles. This 2 year old hen was raced in the local club every week , she won a 1st from 220 miles then a week later 35th National 260 miles from that point she was rested from racing for a month and she recieved an extensive amount of road work. She was the only bird timed on the day winning the national and for good measure she scooped up an RPRA award for her performance Her picture is on the left ;D
jimmy white Posted August 1, 2006 Author Report Posted August 1, 2006 great feed back and very interesting,, my own veiws are much the same as above, lewisis hen scored[ i think] 6 times over 500 miles with 3 races b4 hand, but raced right out as yb, my own sir colin only had 3 or 4 races up to 280 miles, each time he scored, so basicly would say that the breeding has to be there, and they must still have the fuel for the job , and set up for the job in hand [easier said than done ]
pender Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 what people got to remember 200 mile to me is diffrent to say 200mile to unc loft or midland loft. it harder fly here, and lot other people will be the same so it not just down to distance. it down to area you fly in to as well.
pender Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 burnbank hamilton, if you been to j hannah loft i about 900 yds from it.
Chris Little Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Yeah , been to Jim Hannah's house before getting our SNFC winners photographed Cheers Chris
