Matthew Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 something isnt right wen people are losing 20= ybs at a time training
Roland Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 Once they have finished routing / ranging, and are content at home, the good ones that want to be there will be. Outside of seagull milling days etc. they will home.
Guest shadow Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 On satuday we had 6 members sent 60 young birds to our first race that was all they had left after training this year none have been reported despite wing stamping and carrying address rings. Will the problem get worse with global warming is something going wrong with the magnetic lines of the earth?
THE FIFER Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 TOO MANY BIRDS GETTING TRAINED TOGETHER, SOME JUST FOLLOWING THE BATCH
jimmy white Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 the losses have been horrendous, much more than "usual" and whatever it is, its getting worse year by year and its ybs just flying beteen 10 miles to 100 miles they should be able to make light work out of that,,ive seen them trying everything , batch training , differant time, training, freind of mine trained from 25 miles about 10 times , birds comming great but THEN bang 15 out of 39, on the same day which seemed good enough, most members had the same, so it does make you wonder, whats in the air or whats in the atmosphere,or even just WHAT. but theres deffinately something amiss , when pigeons cant use there homming ability, as they did years ago [even if they were late]
Guest Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 I am starting to come round to the way of thinking of some of our top distance fanciers in this country. Which is to train hard including single ups etc then shelf for next year but no baby racing. I know of quite a few that do it so must be something in it. I have done this with half a dozen each year and they have become pretty good yearlings from it so might do it with the lot.
Guest Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 Cheers rose, I tried it today I let them go in 4's from chichester got home and had about 15 missing (lol). As I was standing there waiting batches and batches of birds went through in between letting mine go. They were either lots of trainers or some where sunday racing. Anyway after a short while of being home all bar 5 were back still waiting for them. Maybe they just are not much good who knows. They may even be in scotland now (lol). Think I will keep doing this group tossing and pick my team for next year then miss the racing all together. Also toyed with the idea of asking Mike if I could pay to put them up with you lot on a wednesday as it's too late to join for this year. I am gonna apply for the midweek for next year though I like what you had to say about it. Do you know I spoke to Brian wall this morning as I dropped into him and he dropped 20 yesterday, he was well fed up. John Ayling was there and he said someone he knows only had 1 out of 60 what the hell is happening to them all. I bet the returns must be better on a wednesday with less clashing.
Guest Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 yeah tony lost a load earlyer but seem to be not so bad now.not lost any for a few racers now tutch wood lol
swilcox Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 Saturday we sent 30 and got 30 on the first race, i must say that is the first time that has ever happened to me!!!!! But on reflection that was achieved with 30 tosses, £400 of diesal, a new set of tyres and around 80 hours of driving and basketting!!! Its not an easy sport!! Stuart
Guest WINGS 04 Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 MY BIRDS ARE DOING GOOD IN TRANING AND RACING STARTED WITH 70 YOUNG BIRDS DOWN TO 63 BUT I AM LOSSING THEM OF THE LOFT AS THGEY ARE GETTING HIT BY HAWKS MOST MORNINGS I ONLY LET MY YOUNG BIRDS OUT SUNDAY MONDAY AS I TARIN THE NEXT 3 DAYS THEN NO FLYING BASKET DAY
Guest Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 I think it tempts fate posting up returns / losses. ;D Was one down from Saturday's race and was really surprised to see it sitting there early doors Sunday... just like the 'good' old days, bird might lay out but it worked home Sunday morning. All my losses have been off-the-top too. Only had 6 training spins ... then into 1st race last Saturday. Racing started = training finished. As I said,,,, tempting fate
jimmy white Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 one thing, i would never blame a young pigeon, theve many obstacles,to overcome, and in a way their just like kids, even with the best of management they can be" lost" more so nowadays,,, for some unknown reason.its never happened to everyone, but has happened to most
Guest Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 only lost one up till now :B never tell a lie :-/ and the moon is made of green cheese
pender Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 1 drop first race 64 mile 2 drop 2nd race 85 mile up to now had 7 tosses first race 4 min behind 2nd race 4th club 1 loft in front of me. but i not crowing as with lanarkshire fed anything can happen and it use does lol
Ronnie Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Hi guys im new to the sport this year and have a team of 22 started with 36 .Could it be the pigeons are just not as good at homing as they used to be?To much emphasis on speed and stamina and not enough on homing abilty when we pair up.Just a thought and probably miles away from the reason .Anyway im on my fourth race this week so hopefully Losse's will be very light from now on.Im allready thinking of laying of a few to make sure i have a few yearlings for next year
