Keepsmilingqueen
Hi all, iv just been informed by my club sec that the club i race with (Shotton palms) is folding due to lack of members :'( Although it will be possible for me to join another local club it is an awful blow as my late father was a founding member of my current club ( i can honestly say im glad he isnt around to witness its demise) i sopose it just proves that pigeon racing is a dying sport :'(

Guest WINGS 04
I THINK IT IS TIME ALL THE CLUBS WITH IN 5 MILES OF EACH OTHER SHOULD JOIN AS WE FLY IN THE SAME FED ANYWAY (I MIGHT HAVE NO CLUB TO FLY IN NEXT YEAR BUT THERE IS A CLUB LESS THAN 500 YEARDS FROM MY LOFT THAT WILL NOT LATE US IN WILL HAVE TO TRY AND GET IN ONE THAT I HAVE TO GIVE ALL THE MEMBERS OVER FLY OF MORE THAN 3 MILES BUT IF I GET IN IT WILL ONLY MAKE US TRY HARDER )

Wiley
i think alot of federations could also merge, ive suggested it to my dad for a couple of years that the east london fed should merge with the london north road, also a lot of clubs should as the sport is slowly dieing, however some of my mates are actually getting interested in the sport and one of there parents has actually bought them a loft,i will breed him quiet a few pigeon and hopefully when we get him into a club his club members will,so thats another 17 yr old in the sport but its just not enough to keep the sport running, and considering the prices of everything it will be hard for youn ppl to come into the sport unless they have family backing,or have a job aswell as going college
Guest Gareth Rankin
Hello Wings i would go so far as to say that the Lanarkshire fed which has 25 clubs at present will in 10 years or less be down to 10 to 12 clubs, i think there are to many clubs with 4, 6 and 8 lofts flying pigeons which is no good for competition which is needed for bringing success. PS it is not just Lanarkshire i am talking about all you need to do is look at the BHW results each week and it gives you a shock to see 3 lofts sent -- birds, 4 lofts sent -- birds. NO GOOD FOR THE SPORT.
Wiley
nah the clubs with 3-4 members defaintly need to amalgamate to other clubs

Guest
Ive had this argument with lads up here for years we have 2 feds, 2 wagons going to the same race poinbt each week and most members are dual members, i ask the question 'why cant we both go together it will half all the cost etc etc' why wont the lads do it because they are scared, they are scared of been beaten, it is an absolute disgrace that this can be allowed to happen. why be scared of competition?our fed wanted to join the welsh south east combine, we race with them anyway been libereated together. when we applied the answer we got was, oh we cant let u in as a fed because you can already fly in it. well yes this is the answer for 80% of the fed members because they are members of the other fed, but the members of the front 3 clubs cant join that fed , this meaning that we can't fly in the combine! NANCYVIEWLOFTS
hi all yes its very sad when a club disbands after so many years we had 4 clubs in our town up until 1994 when we held a meeting to join forces after one or two points were sorted out we formed our new club [the macclesfield flying club] all the assets were put together and we had a healthy membership of 40 members with only one secretarys fee to pay sadley now in the 2006 season we are down to 17 members due to the fact that some have left the sport or sadley passed away or left the area what will it be like in another 10 years time
THE FIFER
I AGREE FAR TOO MANY SMALL ORGANISATIONS AROUND TODAY, BUT IN THIS DAY INSTEAD OF GETTING TOGEATHER THEY WANT TO BREAK-AWAY BECAUSE OF DIFFERENT OPPINIONS ETC AND FLYING IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS IE, SOUTH ROAD AND NORTH ROAD, AND IN THE END WE ALL WANT TO FLY PIGEONS,
Pompey Mick
What effect has ETS had on membership levels in Scotland? Have ex-fanciers returned to the Sport i.e. Shift Workers or have membeships decreased through excessive timings. Looking through the posts has it had any effect on slowing the decline of the Sport. THE FIFER
I WAS OUT LAST NIGHT AT A LOCAL SCHOOL DISCO AND KARIOKI, CAN'T EVEN SPELL IT NEVER MIND DO IT ;D ;D IT WAS FOR ADULTS TO BRING IN FUNDS FOR THE SCHOOL OUTINGS ETC, THEY HAD THEIR OWN BAR WITH DRINK WHICH WAS DONATED, THAT'S WHAT MY COMPANY WENT FOR ALL DRINKS £1, SO HAD A GOOD FEW, I DONATED 3 BOTS SO DONE MY BIT, BUT GOT INTO TALKING WITH THE HEAD TEACHER THIS WAS THE SCHOOL WHICH I USED TO GO WITH THE WHITE BIRDS ETC AND THEY NAMED THE ONE WHICH WAS AT THE QUEENS GOLDEN JUBILEE, ANYWAY THE HEAD TEACHER WANTS ME TO GET BACK INVOLVED WITH THE SCHOOL AND THE PIGEONS AND HAVING HAD A FEW I SAID NO PROBLEM, SO THERE IS STILL INTEREST OUT THERE WITH THE SCHOOLS, SO HOPEFULLY WILL GET SOMETHING ON THE GO,
NANCYVIEWLOFTS
good idea i think we should also target those taking early retirement there must be plenty who had a interest in their youth but had to curtail their interest because of work commitments or getting married and rearing a family now with all that done they may find they have plenty of time on their hands and maybe only need kick starting to get back into the sport just a thought
fifestay
Mick I dont know if anyone has left the Sport cos of ETS a few walked away and joined the RPRA and formed their specialist Club to get the Channel distance but I haven't come across any one leaving cos of ETS ...maybe others from other areas will tell different As for the future I think you will have large clubs with declining membership ...it is not seen as Young Persons sport ....its expensive to breed /keep/race . then there is bird flu bird flu vaccanations ...One loft races etc
collect500
hi don,t know if this helps but earlier this year my grandson (18) asked me if i wud lend him the money for a pigeon loft after a bit of discussion dulylent him £800 for a 12x6 loft then went and spoke to a local fancier who very kindly donated 14 birds to him to start him off ( nice birds) then we joined the local club at a cost of £50 then we bought a second hand clock another £60 then nest bowls drinkers and feeders and medication i.e canker tablets ect,ect subsrciption to bhw and the RP then bugger me he discovered birds the non feathered variety so now grandad looks after the birds and races them and is enjoying every minute but it wud be fairer if i was racing against beginners rather than for want of a better word <champions< at least while i,m learning the basics
Guest
You are so right Nancyview, a lot of applicants for the U Help a Beginner Programme are people who have dabbled with pigeons in their younger days and are now looking to get back into it as a hobby for retirement
