I let my young birds out today, and I have alot of crows around where I live.  One of my babies was on my roof, and this big *expletive removed* of a crow, run at her, and went to attack her! with this she flew down to me as it scared the crap out of her!  I pick up a reasonably size pebble, and landed the *expletive removed* one, right on it's nuggin! lol :D  For some reason! The big bullying *expletive removed*, flew off straight after in a state of shock!! tell you what, some shot that was, should have seen him dust!! teach the little *expletive removed* a lesson! lol.  Does anybody have this problem with crows?

Yes just ask the Fifer on this forum, for a couple of years he had a nightmare with a pair of Carion crows that were nesting near by. They even entered his loft a lifted youngsters out of the nest, this I know to be true because on many of my visits to Fifers loft, I witnessed crow attacks on his birds. :'(

If it was legal, I would wipe them out!  Don't get me wrong, I am against cruelty against animals etc, but for them, I would make exceptation!  >:( *expletive removed*! >:(  Sorry about that, I flipped!!  I've calm down now :)

Not really sure...there are plenty of crows around here but, on several occasions I've seen them chasing the sparrowhawks away - I know which I'd rather have around!! :-/ :-/

I HAVE ABOUT A DOZEN CARRION CROWS IN MY AREA NOW ITS WHEN THEY ARE NESTING THEY WILL KILL ANYTHING IN THE AREA, AND THEY TAKE PIGEONS OUT OF THE SKY YES OLD BIRDS SOME THINK THEY ARE TOO SLOW FOR THIS BUT I CAN ASSURE U THEY ARE NOT, THEY ARE VERY INTELIGENT BIRDS VERY FLY. AND CRAFTY, THE CARRION IS CLASSED AS VERMIN, BUT GET CAUT TOUCHING THEM OR THIER NESTS AND U HAVE HAD IT, ONE GOOD THING (BUT NEVER DO IT HA HA) IS IF U CAN DISTERB THEM IN THEIR NEST WHILE JUST ABOUT TO LAY OR ON EGGS THEY WILL ABANDEN IT, I CAN GIVE IDEAS IF U PM ME, ABOUT THIS, (NOT GOOD ONES AS I HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING HONEST :X :X :X :X)

I've always considered crows as friends of the loft.  Feed them and they will keep the hawks at bay.  did have a youngster taken by a Raven a couple of year ago

Yep Crows will attack and kill youngsters. As for keeping the hawks at bay, that is only true as long as the hawks enjoy being harassed by them.  Hawks soon make short work of them when they feel like it. Have 3 was 4 breeding pairs aside of me... likewise 4 pairs of them dang Magpies. So I noted that the crows pinched the magpies nest sites ... but I put up some cd's on wires hanging from the back roof.... great when sun shines... no magpies nests... occasional visits when weather is dull of course. Crows moved 100 yards away. Have the old picture place building 50 yards over looking me. So it is the largest pigeon loft in town. Crows moved on a bit this year... two sparrow hawk nests now each side of my loft, around 50 - 100 yards. Pigeons get took by the hawks... but they get more mice and rats really. Crows move away... but do join in harassing the hawks, but give over big time when hawks on the prod. Cooper hawks play the same game of course ... till food is scare, then they eat crow.

Try a larson trap when i was keepering  i caught plenty . Start baiting it with a dead rabbit split it down the middle they will come when you have caught one keep it as a call bird you must feed and water it . You can really control thier numbers by the use of the larson.

Due respect to Fifer's experience with his crows, but my lot behave very differently. They see off hawks and buzzards, and apart from the early days, don't bother my birds at all.

Early days like most people started with youngsters - no old birds to show them the ropes. They were also out before they were 'strong' enough on the wing to get themselves out of trouble. Crow landed amongst them and scattered them to the 4 winds, they landed everywhere, bus shelter, the road, next doors garden etc.

Now keep my youngsters in the veranda for a week or two after shifting so that they can see and hear all the birds that come and go. They usually go out with the old birds too first time, after the OBs come back from exercise.

No problems with crows scaring youngsters now.

i used to have a crow when i was a kid.It fell out of nest and a group of young kids gave it me.

I fed it and watered it and used to take it out it would even home from about 5 mile away.In the end it just up and left but talk about an inteligent bird .This thing would sit on my dogs back and peck it till the dog left its dinner then jump down and eat the dinner itself.

It would walk up the garden in the morning and peck the patio door for its breakfast.I used to keep it in an old garden shed and when it could fly i used to let it come and go as it pleased .Like i said one day it just up and left but it used to pop back every other week or so then it just stopped coming.

ive seen crows kill the pigeons  but at the same time they do ward off the sparrow hawks,, ive had birds killed recently with the sparrow hawk  and it has dawned on me that this has only happened when my parrot [african grey] has been kept indoors , hes usually out flying free all summer, maybe a coincidence, i dont know , but will keep my eye on this, the parrots never been attacked in 6 years flying out, again maybe coincidence, but when you see the strength in the parrots beak [ break a ckicken leg bone" just like that  ;D" and if he decides to take a chomp at me, well to put it mildly , i would rather put my finger on the step and hit it with the claw hammer,  ;D ;D ;D
