Guest mytton6 Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Hi All if your time was limited and had only time to race one sex which would it be , as the times have seemed to be changing as most of the big widdowhood cock fanciers all now seem to race hens as well David
Flyer Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 i have limited time. but am going to race both sexes. the young cocks will get raced hard as young birds then as yearlings let them rear youngens and light race them. the hens i will do the opposite with.
friendsloft Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 I race both cocks sat, hens midweek work permitting friendsloft
pigeonscout Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 You could race the cocks up to 250 mile then switch to the hens for the longer races. I do not think hens are any better at longer distance but when the birds have to spend two nights in the basket it is my belief that the cocks spend two days fighting in the basket and the hens two days resting.
Roland Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Hens are better and more genuine ... depends on distance to an extent, but overall hens surpass cock birds, and are of course easier to motivate -- being that most motivation has the element of jealousy, and a hen deffinately for long and indeed hard races. Simple really I guess.... Hens every time lol.
Chris Little Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Good question David , it is something I have been thinking a lot of lately. For us, taking into account my work patterns and type of racing we enjoy it would have to be hens
Guest shadow Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 taken in to account my hens won more from the water races than my cock birds ever did
birdman55678 Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 It would depend on the distance of races you wanted to race. I would suggest if you are going to race short races then send the cocks. If racing the longer races then you have to send the hens. On average cocks will out perform in the speed races and hens will knock em out at the distance.
Roland Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Agree Birdman, unless hens are raced purely. But then again it appears that the Natural flyers are back in force even on the sprints let alone the hens on the hard, and distance, and especially the hard distance races.
birdman55678 Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Roland I agree. The hard part in all of it is trying to determine when the tough hard race is but if you send your hens it doesn't matter cause they will come anyway. Ed
Guest Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 i often think this to myself. in 2005 i was in my ates van driving to the nationla arking and i said to him , next year im going to only race the cocks as the hens never seem to come for me' would you belive it that on that weekend i won the national with a HEN!!! so we still race both.

Guest Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 it was 230 miles, i was also 7th , 18th and 22nd (think these positons are correct) but these were with cocks.
westy Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 for me in yb racing cocks have done better over all as the sex but there is a good hen that has been my only pigeon on the day.
