Basket refurb

Just took delivery of of a second hand basket which is basically sound but just needs sprucing up a little.

 

It needs 2 new straps for the lid and release flap. Anyone know where I can purchase these.

The willow is sound enough, just a little dull. Any one got any ideas how to bring it up to scratch?

an old belt will be ok for the straps cut down to size or a kids belt

you can clean the willow by using linseed oil

Found the straps on Boddy & Ridewood.

So now do I go with varnish or linseed oil or both.

If varnish any particular type?

jupiter if you use varnish,i would you clear yacht varnish, if linseed oil, i would rub this into the willow first,let it soak in and dry,before you put the varnish,this should then last you a life time you can get these items fron any good hardware store

TAKE IT TO ANY GARAGE THAT HAS A JET WASH AND BLAST IT WITH THAT THEN LET IT DRY OUT THOROUGHLY ;)DO IT EVERY 2ND YEAR WITH MY OWN BASKETS AND THEN VARNISH THEM WITH THE CHEAPEST VARNISH I CAN FIND COZ LET'S FACE IT YOU DONT LEAVE THEM OUT IN THE RAIN SO WHY BUY EXPENSIVE VARNISH TO COAT THEM?? ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

yacht varnish will last for years and is like puting a coat of enamel on them, vert good stuff.

Gave the basket a thorough brushing with linseed oil and left it overnight. I,m so impressed with the result that I,m tempted to leave it at that.

Just waitng for my straps to turn up now and it will be as good as new.

im sure if you go to a farm or some patatoe bags are made of the same sacking you can make it yourself

youve ordered straps from boddy & ridewood , i think they also sell hession sackcloth for baskets , give them a ring and ask ?                       cheers  andy 8)
