Wiley Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 same time when my birds went down, but got it was told it was paratyphoid tony ??)
Tony C Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Birds were tested for para and treated with baytril whilst awaiting test results, they were still falling of the perches, no para found in tests.
Wiley Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 yes i tried baytrill at the same time i think i literrally tried everything then someone said try baytrill and it done sod all, the only thing that worked and stopped pigeons pegging it was when i jabbed them! Maybe it wasnt para i had?
Tony C Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 The MAFF as it was then tested the Koi carp and found a Herpes virus was the cause of them dying, happened the same time pigeons were dying too, to much of a coincidence.
ALF Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 RICK MAKE SURE THE BIRDS ARE GETTING ENOUGH CALCIUM AS A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE HAD SOME BIRDS DYING ON HIM LAST YEAR THAT HAD EXACTLY THE SAME SYMPTONS AS YOURS SEEM TO HAVE AND AN OLD RETIRED VET TOLD HIM WHAT TO GIVE THEM AND WITHIN 3-4 DAYS THE BIRDS WERE FINE AGAIN.
ALF Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 PS.... IT WAS HIS STOCK BIRDS WHICH DONT FLY OUT!!!
Wiley Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Rick best thing to do get the vet to have a look as everyone is giving you what the think it could be and it could be tempted with trying them all to no success which will waste alot of money and pigeons in the long wrong get the professional advice and get it sorted mate, just dont want you going down the line as i did buying this product and that and it wasnt if you know what i mean hope this helps
paul l Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 hi mate hope all is ok with birds today have u been to vets as we said last night and what dose he recon mate

Keepsmilingqueen Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 i hope it clears up for you, id be very interested to know what caused it when you find out
stevebelbin Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 It maybe a good idea to use parastop as a preventative from now on, to prevent it happening again. I had the same problem a few years back and it was because I put damp sand in the loft (f--king stupid I know) and got a bit lazy with it during the winter months. I had to treat all mine with Bayflox for 10 days, then for worms, cocci and canker. Mine were literally dropping of the perches - bloody depressing time that was. I think certain birds can handle it and carry on to be good birds, but it re-occured in a few birds, when my racing partner took over the loft.
pigeonscout Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I would take jimmy white, s advice and get them tested. If it is a virus then it will have to run its course as there is no cure for viruses just prevention. All you can do when they get a viruses is try to stop secondary diseases getting hold.
rockinrick Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Posted February 1, 2007 coild be a number of things though! has it started since you started breeding? what have you gave them different? have they been in the garden? fielding? could it be poisoning? like bruno says only real way is autopsy, wont be cheap, but wont be cheap treating blindly either, then end up at square one again, i think i found the cause , i had given my stock birds some johnsons tonic in the drinkers which i had in my store , i gave it at 20ml to 5ltr where as i normally gave at 10ml to 3ltr would this have overdosed the birds ? as its the only thing i have changed as i bought new drinkers . my birds are prisoners with access to an avery and fresh water and feed per day . i had a friend call who flew many years ago ( joe jackson ) he gave them some white powder which in afew seconds made them vomit , i dont have a problem since , the white powder turned out to be baking soda thnx for all replies to my first post great advise .
