Me again lads and lasses could the scottish flyers in here please tell me which ETS system that they are using? Unikon, Benzing or some other and if they are different how are the results worked out?

 

WE'RE USING UNIKON TUBBLES BUT NOT SURE ABOUT THE RESULTS WILL BE WORKED OUT BUT THE UNIKON REP FOR SCOTLAND DID SAY THAT EAST COAST SOFTWARE ARE DEVELOPING A PROGRAMME JUST NOW THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO ADD POOLS AND UPLOAD THE RESULTS

While i agree that the money from the lottery should pay for essential stuff like NHS and prescription charges lets just think of where the money goes if we don't apply for it. Brass bands and opera houses spring to mind and if they worry about a poxy 10 grand of lottery money then it's news to me. I have never been to an opera house in my life and i think that if i come into money it would still be low on my pecking order. the opera house got millions of pounds to support itself and the prices are out of normal peoples means, you worry about Alfs club getting 10 grand. come on now a bit of perspective is needed here. without insulting anyone of the pigeon flyers that i know, the opera is something that is very rarely even spoken of never mind planned for a night out. We all laughed (silently fuming) when we heard of that donation of 78 million or so.

Lots of different and interesting themes emerging within this thread.

 

(1) I think one of the most important ones is that somehow making use of lottery grants shows us up in a bad light. If everyone felt that way then there would be no applications for grants and eventually no grant awards system; Also if it was deemed wrong to have a grant to improve or replace something, then the people in charge of awarding the grant would simply not award a grant for it - and that hasn't happened.

 

(2) On the subject of race result software; I think this is where there has been a lack of joined-up-thinking between different manufacturers; making clocks that are just timing devices, windy-up, battery or electronic bits of kit that just tell when the bird arrived and nothing else ... no inbuilt distance / time = velocity calculator, no download facility to a race results programme that will calculate the result from direct electronic data transmission, instead everyone uses what is really a manual system on a computer ... typing all the same stuff in week after week from reams of paper.

 

Maybe the availability of grants & new technology will allow us to have a closer look at how we do things now, and maybe improve upon it in the future.
