Guest jason Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 after the breeder/buyer on sunday, we had a discussion on the best corn for pigeons............one bloke said he'd been flying for 55 years and loved to watch fanciers 'dig' handfulls out of them 'bins' at blackpool and say 'thats nice corn' lol. but in his 55 years he says he wouldn't know what to look for, if he started looking at corn. The only thing I look for in corn is dust. but you can't really check till you've paid for it, for instance if you buy a 'own mix' from a corn merchants at say £6, you take it home, tip it in your corn bin and you can't see your hand infront of you for the dust. If this happens I won't buy that mix again. I've always found vanrobaeys corns have the least amount of dust, but this year I've switched to bucktons V.I.P. and I have to say its good clean corn. Guest Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 i use(as do many others in this part of wales),buy corn from richard andrews in hereford (court farm.)he,ll be at the welsh show on the 31st of this month. his corn is cleaner then any ive seen and quality is top notch!. i know that a good few national winning lofts use nothing else but his corn. nice bloke to deal with and i can personally say a true gentleman who will chat for ages over wot ud prefer and anything else....this is a farm, and he bags his own corn!...a good high protein economy 25kg bag is around £6.50 a bag..and has the best inside it.....paul
Guest Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 I feed Bamfords corn but have been told it is not as good as all the grains are grown in the UK,am thinking of changing to Beyers.Any suggestions? Jason years ago a very good local flyer here before he bought maize he used to shove his whole arm into the bag and when it came out he expected to see his arm covered in white powder which he said is a must to be good maize cant do that nowadays and the above story just reminded me of that i think dust is the result of bad storage

tubbles Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 I use Bucktons wherever possible, have always found it to be nice clean looking corn. Not won any races for a while but don't think this is anything to do with the corn perhaps just the amount i feed. :-/ Birds look well on it and that to me, is the important part.
Mike Lycett Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 Think the main things to consider is cleanliness & consistency We've had a good bag of corn one day & the next bag has been rubbish - that's no good. Versele-Laga is the best, consistently for my money
