blackjack Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Good advice from messrs Tasker,Lycett and Mrs Wills i only paired the stock 2 days ago and the racers will have to wait a couple of weeks . Leave them alone patiences is a virtue or you will wreck your season3 to 4 weeks yet.
THE FIFER Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 its certainly very cold up here in fife today and the weather is still very unsettled one day nice another back to winter.
Guest Vic Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Still cold here, so no baskets being moved. Yesterday, when I opened up for the W/H cocks to exercise, they hesitated, so I shut them up again, as I normally do when they hesitate. They don't even like exercising in cold dampish weather. I know some guys don't train until the trees are green, but I dont wait that long, and will have them on the road when it warms up, Tomorrow maybe? Vic.
Guest speckled Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 :-/ little overcast here in portsmouth today but ive not started even thinking of training wooooooooo the widow cocks wont like this drop in temp i can asure ya that so as long as thay are flying around the loft, thats good enough for me ;D ;Dsome exercise is better than none mind you looks like we have a change in the weather after tommoz afternoon, so might htink about dusting the cobwebs of the baskets & see how the weather temp goes. Speck
Roland Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Nice Vic isn't that Frank Tasker beplied as to why, and gave a good answer.
THE FIFER Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 the sun is trying to break through in leven but its a very cold wind.
Tony C Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Like winter here, have to put on me willy winter warmers on to go in the garden ;D ;D
jimmy white Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 freezing ,, misty , rainy,,,,damp :) even the birds look depressed :) strange though , like humans, they fairly come to life in the sunshine [if you can remember what that is up here :) ] certainly not training weather ah well , back to the long johns ,,,,,,,over my kilt ;D ;D ;D
Guest Vic Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Nice Vic isn't that Frank Tasker beplied as to why, and gave a good answer. Roland, Yes! Wise words are always wecome.
Guest speckled Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 ;D well we are all not distance flyers so flyers that like the sprint only need the warm weather for the widow cocks but some do have pateints,& do repect the birds thay race but are not so fortunate like ya lot breeding now, well just my opion SPECK
Guest speckled Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 well looks like ya have to start it with next years yearling rose that widow lark cause hard to change a natrual into a lean mean racing machine, bit like meN TRYING TO GET THEM FRON UNDER THE DUVET.when it cold lol SPECK ;D
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 I have had a go at the sprinting speck and mine still never got to see the first races if you only racing a handful of birds dont see how you can bring them out this early and still be racing them by the end of the season seen too many people lose a lot of birds on those first couple of races over the years and all for the sake of some 50-60ml race I agree their are plenty who do respect their birds but their are plenty who do not and will have to be in the first race whatever the price 25p per bird ;D
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 If it were free my birds still be at home tammy ;D ;D ;D you only keepin sunshine doos then, put a jacket on them and that will keep them warm
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 You calling me a fair weather flier tammy > > > ;D ;D ;D Would I dare call you anything ? you are certainly heading for fair weather when you leave us to go to warmer climates, I can just picture you sailing down the Nile like the Queen o Sheba with a pharoh standing over you with a big fan while you lie back and stare at the pyramids thinking of ? what will you be thinking of when you are sailing down the Nile , certainly willnae be the cold weather here I bet, If you plunder a tomb send me back some of the gold you find
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 When Im away you might ;D ;D ;D Not sure about the nile trip but definately some scuba diving and a trip to the pyramids and if i find any gold i be keeping it ;D ;D ;D I knew you were a gold digger ;D
Guest Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Rose, are you going to the red sea?.I am going in 13 days time
Guest Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 I am going on the 12 april,1 week on a boat then second week in sharm
Guest Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Yes should arrive in sharm the same day, what a coincidence, won't be any "bloody weather" there we can just lie on our sunloungers sipping a cocktail and laugh at this lot trying to train birds in the rain!Which hotel have you booked?
Guest Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 I am at the Mirrabel Beach, maybe meet up for a drink one day?
Guest Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Wait till I tell "him indoors",everytime we go away I manage to bump into pigeon people or pigeons.Last year we went to Cuba and purely by chance cycling one day we found this zoo and they had dozens of different varieties of pigeons there."Him indoors" thought I had planned it but it really was just a coincidence. He should know by now there is no escape....love me love my pigeons!
Roland Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Just don't bother to talk to the locals... they pester like the clappers, Fags, £65 per 1000. Camel straw lol lituraully. Never accept the first price on anything, it is at lweast 330% above, and don't take too much notice of the guide either, he's on a percentage. When they hassle just don't talk, then they will move to the next one. But a great cheap holiday nevertheless.
Guest Vic Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 You say you start on the 7th April, do you have to? You will do more harm to your pigeons than enough. Ornithose (thick head) will for certain follow and for most of the pigeons the season will be finished before it starts. I would sooner send my birds to 200 miles with a few 30 mile tosses, than toss them in March (N.E. winds) (cold temp) to fly a 60 mile race. Back to Basics! Fair enough Frank, but I remember (not too long back, about 20 years maybe) ;D ;D When I won the first old bird race from Hereford (96 mile) in a snow storm at clocking. This beautiful dark hen came through the best Vandies around at the time, via a guy from Blackpool. His name slips me at the moment. But! this is the crux, the same hen won the Poitiers race that year (500 mile) taking a prominent position in the NW Combine to boot. Vic.
Guest Vic Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 ;D The guys name was Bibby with the Vandies I,m chasing my brain with a butterfly net these days! ;D He was further south, around Southport I think.
