barlbylofts Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 no not good at all but my birds got to go if not they will have to jump up 50 miles or so next week
Guest Vic Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 I put my hens out last night in the Wed club, from Ludlow, preparing them hopefully, for later on. They were brought back tonight, at 19.10 and we had to pick em up from our marking station. Realistically , while the weather was holding this morning, they should have went up. No race, but a training toss at least, Why are we still wearing blinkers? >
celtic Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Looks bad for us in the lothians as well Wings, probably end up not sending.
celtic Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 It's like the dark ages i think sometimes vic, would'nt be so bad but at times there is no need for it .
me Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 It's like the dark ages i think sometimes vic, would'nt be so bad but at times there is no need for it . Think you and Vince should have a look at the thread asking for details of the weather at "wanstead flats" there is alwas someone looking to "shoot the piano player" and to be honest to take a risk with peoples birds to effectively give them a dodgy training toss does not make alot of sense. You can't win being a Race Controller trust "me"

celtic Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 I'm not saying that ME, what i am saying is that sometimes they can be over cautious, nobody want's to lose birds just for the sake of it, but i'm sure you'll agree, or maybe not, the contollers are over cautious, pigeons are not meant to be wrapped in cotton wool, ...an example the pentland fed, which incidentally has many top national fliers quite a few who are members on this board have a race the week before christmas, barring freak weather the race goes ahaed with the top fliers sending their best birds, if they are good enough and fit enough they will make it home, end of story , if you want birds to stand and look at when the weather is not to your liking buy budgies.
Guest Vic Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Going back, we did have a "winter club" in this area, and most races were as norm. Some of the winning birds going on to win again, in the "proper" season.
andy Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Ive seen 3 different forecasts in 24 hours for Saturday. With these South westerly winds we're having at the moment even the forecasters can be 12 hours out. Start being positive cos if the forecasters cant tell how the hell can you lot!!!
Guest Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Not a weather forecaster, but to me things appear to improve down the east coast corridor on Saturday: we lose these blustery winds for a start, they decrease to light and turn southerly, and the worst we have is light rain at the home end and light showers from the race point [Wetherby] to the Scottish Borders.. Don't know how frequent those showers will be tho.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 THERE LOOKS TO BE A DECENT BREAK AROUND MID DAY OR JUST A TOUCH EARLIER AND THINK , AT THIS TIME , WE WILL HAVE SOME RACING, AS ANDY SAYS YOU HAVE TO BE POSITIVE
Roland Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Was a time when 'Fanciers' accepted that the Convoyer / liberator was doing their best, and accepted losses and bad races as something that happened. Today with all the mod cons, it is proving more than ever a thankless job to lib, as the mod cons prove diddley pip except that we JUST can really forecast the weather mostly! So in real terms folks should be more tolerant and understanding with the controllers etc.
