DJ Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 hi all, its me again as you,ve all been so helpfull with my postings (where did i go wrong?) i thought that i would let everybody know that ive had another pigeon come home today from that disastrous 5ml training run on 2 may, he,s lost a lot of weight and doesnt seem to want to eat much and just sits hunched up ? hes had some glucose and multivits in his drinking water so should i now just leave him to rest and recover or is there anything else that i should be doing to help him? i dont know what he,s been doing for 12 days-if only they could talk? anyway if anybody could advise me about what to do with him it would be much appreciated debbie :-/ :-/
gangster Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 soak some food and feed him by opening his beak n putting it in ....
Roland Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Three peanuts only, and they will work wonders.
Roland Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Saw a great topic once where it was that when a stray, or such landed the writer put a small worm down the birds neck. - Possible washed it a mite, or cleaned as such, but had them up and awa in no time. A jot of protien does work wonders.
REDCHEQHEN Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 soak some food and feed him by opening his beak n putting it in .... I agree with gangster - hand feed bits a few times a day until it starts feeding by itself (leave the worms alone :-/ )
Guest Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Made a muck of one of my own out in the wilds for weeks last year. Clubmate put me right - reckons they basically can't digest the big stuff likes beans peas etc., and recommended smalls, like wheat, or seed and feed that until digestive system kicks in .. that is when the droppings start to form up again. Feed a light diet, little & often, and build up gradually to your usual mix. And make sure you keep the bird seperate from the others.
DJ Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 thanks all for the replies, hes eaten some small seeds today and hes drinking ok,i fed him the peanuts to fill him up a bit so i will see how he is tomorow and take it from there but he,s still sitting hunched up and looking very tired, hopefully he will perk up soon? debbie
batusai Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 hi all, its me again as you,ve all been so helpfull with my postings (where did i go wrong?) i thought that i would let everybody know that ive had another pigeon come home today from that disastrous 5ml training run on 2 may, he,s lost a lot of weight and doesnt seem to want to eat much and just sits hunched up ? hes had some glucose and multivits in his drinking water so should i now just leave him to rest and recover or is there anything else that i should be doing to help him? i dont know what he,s been doing for 12 days-if only they could talk? anyway if anybody could advise me about what to do with him it would be much appreciated debbie :-/ :-/ Try to check his mouth... since you dont know what he did the last 12 days there might be some diseases inside his body which we dont know. If there are some yellowish color inside his mouth You have to separate him from other birds and cure him at least 3days of antibiotic (canker/cocci/respiratory). Give him peanuts and feeds... after you cure him start giving him multi vitamins... just my two cents.... thanks, batusai!
