Details scarce, only two poultry notifiable diseases, bird flu and newcastle disease (Paramyxo to us) both covered by same contingency plan.

News does say its a country estate near Wrexham in North Wales that's involved - maybe game birds and newcastle disease?

News24 - Basically creating a news story , all  very sketchy initially reporters were saying don't jump to conclusions - talked about deliveries to a country estate being turned back, but their reports less than an hour later have started to link it with bird flu, yet last stated that full lab tests & results expected to be announced around 1330 time?

Couldn't find any press release on AI pages on Welsh Assembly or DEFRA website.

MSN said it is bird flu but not HN51

It is H7N2 a low pathogenic strain of AI. Restrictions are similar to the LPAI outbreak in Dereham, Norfolk last year. There is a single exclusion zone, 1Km, lasting 21 days, and from memory, had no affect on pigeon racing at all.

Following confirmation of Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza H7N2 in a flock in Conwy, North Wales, bird gatherings must not be attended by chicken or ducks.  This will be kept under active review over the next few days as the disease situation becomes clearer. Bird gatherings include falconry displays, fairs, markets, shows, exhibitions and domestic pigeon races. All gatherings not involving chickens or ducks remain permitted as before under the General Licence under Regulation 6 of the Preventive Measures (England) Regulations 2006  (Link to OPSI website).

Still OK as long as Tammy doesnt send his chickens or ducks to the race lol.

From TV Pics seemed very rural area and map on Welsh Assembly AI website confirms it. You are 11 and a half miles outside the zone, so basically nothing to worry about.  :)    And pigeons are immune to Low Pathogenic AI.

Pigeons cant get the birdflu anyway.I dont know why they call of the shows.

A canadian vet proved in 2005 that pigeons cannot catch bird flue, lets just hope that the shows in that area like cheshire,Nantwich and Queensferry are not calledoff

Bird gatherings include sales and shows too, Chrissy, so pigeon shows will go ahead.

That I believe you will find has been recinded. He has since inform many that under certain Lab tests - agreed many believe excessive - that pigeon can / could cary the virus.
