hello i had birds 4 weeks ago where i bought 40 by the time i got home 5 where dead fair play to lpw they replaced them no problem.

The following sunday i went back picked the 5 replacements and bought 10 more i then installed them in the loft ( i have only started back up so i have no other birds except the lpw birds).

within a couple of days i went through checking birds and i seen signs of canker in them so i started to treat them with an all in one treatment from rohnfread within this last two weeks i have disposed of 14 so i went away the weekend leaving my mum in charge (she also kept pigeons before so she knows what she is doin) i came back and she had isolated another in the basket now the have been treated for the course and one still gone wrong.

i have been using harkers loft treatment on the floor and boxes the feeders the feeders are being sprayed with a disingfectant after use.

i spoke to lpw the are goin to let me know what they are going to do and i am goin to a vet to get the birds checked as there is something more serious than just your common illness.

the only thing i can think of is the pmv vaccine weaken them when they are injected when they r weaned

suppose this will be one of their main problems, having birds at the exact age to suit somebody when they order them but i have never bought young birds off them becaue a club member was buying a lot of kits and he had the problems wiley says here, some too early and others too strong on the wing, maybe they try and sell too many and find it hard to keep them to the age that is needed :ie birds not ordered and they get too old and then they get an order and send out the older ones  first or on the other end they get an order and instead of holding them for a few more days they send them out at once

I got 12 last year my first year in pigeon racing.

First batch of 6 where good (still got one hen left)

second batch were very poor had to cull 2 in the first week of receiving them the other four where kept in there own shed for two weeks till they picked up a bit i lost 1 culled the others due to consistently getting ill.

Spoke to a club member about it and he said thats what to expect from big stud's.Dunno how true this is but the general consensus around here is its a lucky dip.Yes you get good blood if you can keep em.

all in all out of the 12 i bought i got one left.

I bought six youngsters from doncaster spring fair 2006.From a place called red dragon lofts and they where exceptional compared to LPW birds.Lol only got one of them left as well but that was down to moving house and the first old bird race.

i never by from louella, its a pigeon farm, if you have trouble with pigeons from there its understandable because i think in my opinion they do not give their birds enough time, my advice is take all the birds back and get your money back.. i will provide people who are serious about pigeons with quality youngsters at a really good price and they win. www.timbarra.co.uk i do not charge masses of money but i try to breed and supply top pigeons to the normal working fancier ...

if you need help in anyway mail me spencer@timbarra.co.uk

a few people down hre have said The 6 for £99.99 look crackers and fly round the loft really well wonse there in that race bscket you loose about 4 or 5

Can only speak as I find. The one I had 6 years ago as a youngster has flown far and well for me... expect here to peform well at Frazerburg a week a Sat... having her first race this Saturday, and hopefully two chucks before this week.

Three main, and good flyers in my club, did what many sucessful others have done in the club, and bought a round of 'Latebreds'.

Many of our 'Achieved' sucess at the national, and Internation' were of spring of Louella Birds. So yes some don't hit, other do, but one must also take into account the 'Fancier's' ability too I believe.

Yes would think of starting again with 8 pairs of latebreds of Double Grandchildren.

hi roland , i myself do not ever buy louella pigeons , but when you think of how many they sell, some must win, but i bought all my main breeders on the continent and they already bred winners. it is i think the best way to go . but thats me..

I've never brought any louella pigeons, just been given two youngsters bred off an louella stock cock my mate has and they look ok through. Suppose when your buying yb's they breed that many they may not have had the time invested in them.

For several years we bought a few sets of the £99 for six lot. We won each year with them. One of my better ones was a Dark WF Lucien Staelen cock that was an absolute money box, always in the prize or pools money. We gave a hen away from one set, and it flew 3rd UNC from the YB Folkestone National. Yes, most of them were pants, but when you got a good one, it was quite a good one. I would say our strike rate was one good one from every six purchased. Which to be fair, I feel was good value for money. I have spent much more, absolute fortunes, elsewhere on birds that were being brought back in boxes via couriers, that ended up as garden fertilizer! I can't personally criticize or condemn Louella, as they have always been courteous and respectful in their dealings with me, and they own some of the best pigeons in the world! They do a lot for charity aswell, so Good luck to them!

In the past (think mid nineties was last time)we have tried the racing kits of youngsters - but to no avail (none left at end of season etc, they was healthy enough but that was all.

then we tried their allfair auctions, Staf Van Reet strain - bought three 1 @ £240, 1 @ £110 and 1 x £90....never bred a performance pigeon in the 3yrs we raced their offspring (actually the £240 bird was bought as a grand daughter of daniel and after 3 months of trying to pair to our No1 stock cock, actually had to find a hen for it, cos it was a cock & this was a 3yr old pigeon)

Then as a benefit of the doubt in the 2001 we tried a couple of their pedigree pairs they sell during the winter at £75 per pair.......only to recieve them by amtrak to find a pencil cock with mild PMV (actually neck/head on one side!!)

Spoke to Micheal, and his response was "we are a breeding stud and with the number of birds we send out there is bound to be some abnormalities" - what a sack of kak.

These birds were returned and will never be used again....we gave them 3 x chances...i think that was fair....But we know other fanciers who have had them and score with offspring, just not us? :P

ive had a few over the years from louella, and they have turned out to be good birds, when i usually buy youngsters from them i always treat them straight away with nifuramicyn for 5 days, that gets rid of all the nasty bugs they pick up and fetch to your own loft.i also only fed them maples for 3 weeks before changing there corn, since ive been at my new address i havnt had any,not because of the quality but lack of room.Les

i've bought a couple of kits from lpw and on the whole they've been rubbish but i have got 1 good cock from 6 van geels bought in 2004,won from messac last week,  but the birds i've bought for stock are doing very well when matched with local performance birds

I had several pigeons from LPW years ago, and they bred me some superb YBs, flew right through to Pau and Palamos. Never had a dud from them.  Old Louis was one of the finest fanciers ever to time a pigeon in my opinion, look at his record if you can obtain the old books.  When you buy babies you need to cosset them for they suffer stress being parted from parents, then moved to the other end of the earth.  Blame the man, not the material . . .   Cheers,

I may be just unlucky, the 5 birds I got appeared OK health wise but honestly, 4 of them the first time they were out [singly] as soon as they went over the garden fence they were lost and I never saw them again.

1st loss was my fault, just started up with a matched pair - the YB cock got out after only 3 days here, but the other 3 were minimum 21 days here, and 2 of them were paired up.  The only bird I was able to settle was a yearling hen of that matched pair [bought for stock] - got another cock for her, only to discover after another year went by that she was barren, egg-drop syndrom I reckon, was used as a feeder for a couple of years then put down because her condition steadily worsened and eventually caused breathing distress.

As I said, I may be just unlucky, £250 and nuffink , not a single feather, to show for it.  :-/
