cocci, worm etc oocysts [eggs] thrive in damp droppings [especialy after 48,hours ] so whatever means you useit must be bone dry , when racing i would scrape out twice a day and brush in  a little loft white [pardon the pun :)],to dry it right off... ,in the winter use shavings or  easybed  with the loft treatment mixed in it, but i feel some never think about the outside of the loft , that can be a haven for the same ,so its worth slabbing or chipping so it can be watering canned with virkon s

loft white mixed with lime make sure to brush out

How come if lime is quite a corrosive chemical it does not damage birds? A well known show fancier in our area adds it to his mineral mix along withsome coarse builders sand

i remember seeing an old film on the donaldson bros,,,,dunbar,, great distance fliers ,, the birds had been picking at the pointing of the old  stone wall for years , they wouldnt re point it saying it did them good [by their results at the time, it didnt do them any harm anyway :)]
