Guest Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 This is the latest email i have received on whats happening I hope this might be an answer to those who are worried about it being a waste of time and money thrown away Subject: B.I.C.C. S.O.S. Date: Wed, 18 July 2007 13:36:48 +0100 Further to our recent emails regarding Save.Our.Sport. we will be seeking legal advice to make sure that we have a case to proceed with. Jan & Albi With respect, think a sound case needs to be put together first, then tested against Legal Opinion. My opinion only, but it may also be harder to win a case based purely on scientific evidence, because it doesn't help when we show evidence that A,B,C says A and DEFRA counters with evidence that D,E,F says the exact opposite. More plausible to show that evidence is conflicting, but that no definitive study on pigeons' role in spreading the virus has been commissioned by DEFRA, yet its measures are way OTT compared with other EU governments.
blackjack Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 I think are chances are not to bad after all are human rights are being infringed and as has be proven with the TB reactor bull in Wales which if it had been any farmers would have seized and destroyed. When a group have stood together MAFF after a high court judgement lost it is going to appeal i know but belive me this is the only language MAFF understands. Thier F@M policy was beaten by some who stood firm in Cumbria alot of you have never dealt with MAFF being city and urban people some of have and the only way to halt them and make them think is with a strong well imformed and articulate group who will act through the courts if required and hold firm if not they will just ignore you .

Posted on the Hindu sacred bull in Wales elsewhere. Note what you say, but the main issue here may not be human rights: its an animal tested positive with a disease transmissable to humans, and Animal Health legislation says it must be slaughtered. The owners went to the High Court have been successful in overturning the slaughter order. Part of their defence was the animal had limited if no opportunity to come into contact with others, so couldn't infect them. Need written judgement as it promises to be a good Case Law precedent and may be useful to us.
jimmy_bulger Posted July 18, 2007 Report Posted July 18, 2007 hi jimmy. this is my firm belief. and i am prepared to put up or shut up and the rpra should be the first leading the bleedin way and not a classic club. jimmy
Roland Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 hi jimmy. this is my firm belief. and i am prepared to put up or shut up and the rpra should be the first leading the bleedin way and not a classic club. jimmy 100% correct.... 47,000 members a fiver each and we could have think tanks, PR firms in our corner and painting our story while the Q.C's battle at what they do best at. But the RPRA are scared to suggest spending members money, because if they were levied a fiver thaey would expect cheaper rings, no transfer fees and big cash prizes for meriteous awards I've no doubt.

Pompey Mick Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 Babelfish translation of French communication posted on PIPA.be COMMUNICATE FRENCH to PIGEON FANCIER FEDERATION ALL the PIGEON FANCIERS the RACES OF CARRIER PIGEONS TAKE again EC WEEKEND OF JULY 21/22, 2007 After two weeks a forced stop our dispach riders can, again, travel freely. Our pigeons "demonstrators" already put in cabins Wednesday and Thursday will be joined by their colleagues, this Friday and Saturday in an immense demonstration symbolic system. The hundreds of thousands of released travellers this weekend will be carrying the message NEVER AGAIN "CA" This message will be addressed to the authorities which have in load the management of this serious problem of Influenza aviary of which we are interdependent and Co-managers, concerning the carrier pigeons, because we let us have of it the obligation from the Law n° 94-508 of June 23, 1994. This is why, our mail of July 31, 2006, proposing a specific plan of management of the carrier pigeons in the event of presence of virus H5N1 on our country, will be reactivated and we wish to give it again, in clean hands, this time, the services of the Directorate-General of the Food (DGAL) because, the application of this plan allowed us, if it had been retained, to safeguard all the pigeon fancier activity while remaining in conformity with the declaration of March 09, 2006 of the Standing Committee of the Food chain and Animal Health (European Commission) and obeyed, also, with the principle of precaution so expensive by times which run.... France is not only the country of the Humans right, France is also the country from which all the departures of the races of carrier pigeons take place towards Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg. For this reason, the role of French the Pigeon fancier Federation is fundamental in the management of all this transit which it is necessary to authorize, manage and control. I thank these friendly countries for their solidarity and expression of sympathy with the French pigeon fanciers, in particular, Germany in the person of his President, Mr H. Menzel, whose future support will be invaluable for us. This interruption of the races of pigeons, which should never have taken place, ends in this weekend of July the 21 and 22 thanks to the implication of Mister the Minister for the Agriculture which understood perfectly that the cut off date of this weekend was vital for the safeguard of the carrier pigeon. I thank - Mr Benoît Caillez, person in charge for the newspaper French pigeon fancier "France Pigeon fancier" for his writing informed, relevant, right and neutral on this complex subject which is the aviary influenza and which contributed to the good management of this difficult period. - Mr Jean Pierre Decool and Doctor CH Arnoult for their devotion and the provision of their competences specific to the service of this cause. And finally, the national board of directors, for its determination to take the action of great decisive scale to the releasing of this ubuesque situation and to save the season pigeon fancier 2007. (the date which had been advanced by the Ministry, during the meeting on July 11, was 1st fortnight of August). I thank, also, all those which encouraged me and supported in this difficult test, of short duration, but which seemed to me interminable. Good end of season pigeon fancier, good holidays and with the pleasure of meeting you, Yours sincerely, President National, SOUSA Translate again
Guest Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 and so the fighting fund is going to continue ;)
Roland Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Latest Update Subject: DEFRA Date: Wed, 25 July 2007 15:34:00 +0100We have just received a phone call from David Middleton of DEFRA who was the bearer of bad news. DEFRA are refusing to lift the ban. We have sent them a lot of evidence to back our case, pleaded with them and to no avail. What is up with them? Albi pleaded our case again with him but he said that they had a meeting this afternoon and it seems that they know best despite the evidence from prominent Vetinary Surgeons whom the other EU countries seem to respect . It seems our only resource now is through the courts Jan & Albi As expected... and it is Tax Payers money, and Tax paying voters they aim to please. Need a P.R Firm pronto to get out voice heard and arguements across, especially if their rulings are challenged in he courts.
Guest Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 As expected... and it is Tax Payers money, and Tax paying voters they aim to please. Need a P.R Firm pronto to get out voice heard and arguements across, especially if their rulings are challenged in he courts. With respect, Roland, PR is to get the message across to Joe Public; basically lost that war with few editors prepared to publish the pigeon side of things. The way to get our voice heard in court is thro a damned good Advocate, with a damned good case, that DEFRA cannot successfully defend.
Roland Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Bruno smell the coffee.Public oppinion is ALL important, and Publishers can only print word for word any Statement. Secondarly a PR firm has friends that can open doors and ears. Thirdly we need a voice for Joe Public' very much in very many differnt fields, least of all puuting our case forward. Further they would convey any message to Joe Public far bettr than us, and their Think tank would be geared to reach them with the right message and also as JOE public sees it. AND much more!!! Haven't you see that great recent article on the BICC site of a NEWS media and the great write up of our sport?! oBVIOUSLY NOT, AND THAT IS ANOTHER REASO WHY WE ANT, NO SORRY NEED A pr FIRM.
Guest Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Don't disagree with you Roland. August 2005 yes, when a number of us contacted our Unions. I also suggested a press campaign spearheaded by PB which he declined on grounds of cost. 2 years down the line, the damage has already been well and truly done to our reputation and finances, and even PB is lucky nowadays if he has 1% of anything he puts out to National newspapers printed. Its not an Alistair Campbell [Ex-Tony Blair Press Officer] you want representing you in the High Court, its a Donald Finlay [QC].
Roland Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Not bothered about courts.... all publicity is GOOD publicity if it even takes a stroll. And any and every statment could and should be ran over with a PR firm that works for you. And the Tories had a great one for Thatcer Satchel and muckers.... then hey split of course and New Labour were allowed in to put the country straight again Lol, and ther PR machine is keeping the tories where they should be, yapping at the back door and trying to make scrap meat into a good meal lol.
Roland Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 Cool. Am willing to do a Show / Fund - Raiser. I never handle money, - well would but Joyce won't let me lol. Seriously never at any 'Fund - Raiser' or otherwise do I handle money. So need a couple of names that are able, willing and capable. http://www.rosscoleyevents.co.uk/ Feel that a 'Race - Night- would be best! Now have ideas of course, but will see if any one is interested first! Would have to have a 'Venue' to hold the function. Two or more folks to work the Tote - simple even I could do that. Will do a show during and after.... say a 60's / 70's night with the live acts on the 'Big Screen'. Further folks on here can buy their Horses.... as many as one likes. The 8 Races can be duplicated as much as needed. Then 50% to the cause and 50% to the winning owner ... likewise Jockeys ... Could do a tri - Cast for those that decide to come... or any one here wishing to participate. etc. etc. Lets us know wha the interest is... etc.
