Guest TAMMY_1 Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 You constantly now see treatments more readily available in 4in 1, 3 in 1, 5 in 1, for treating various things in one go, who has tried some of these things and what ones, and did you think they were better than the single treatment cure? and do you think it is asking too much of a pigeons body to be treating it for 3,4, or 5 things in the one go ?
Guest jason Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 I used to use 4 in 1....canker, cocci, worms & respitory but can't get hold of any now-adays I always noticed a vast improvement in the birds when treated with it.....if anyone can tell me where to get some from...I'd certainly buy again. Jason I have always been taught that you should leave at least a week between treatments,so is 4 in 1 safe to use given the amount of different drugs administered at 1 time?.Also is it effective?

Guest Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Think the people who make these preparations provide info that you can safely make a judgement on. There is usually a leaflet or a web page giving details of what drugs are in them, the trials these drugs / product has gone thro, the results and the 'contraindications' - the side effects. There is also 'an analogy' : the human 3-in-one MMR vaccine which tho shown to be safe for the majority of babies has been said to affect a minority in devastating ways. I don't know of any problems that the 3 x vaccines caused when given singly, but more than one at the same time seems to up the risk of something going wrong? As with parents, the fancier has the final say on what is done. Personally, I don't see the point in making things more difficult for the bird than is necessary, why challenge it with up to 5 different 'diseases' all at once?

DOVEScot Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Surely your birds don't have all these ailments, they are preventative medicines And on any living thing there are possible side effects or reactions eg nuts, potatos, lactose and loads more
Guest Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 just asking about the last line highlighted Bruno, do you think that the birds will carry the 5 diseases at one time?and if not are you not wasting money by buying and treating them for so many things in one go which they might not have in any case I'd actually changed the last line of my post from 'I thought it was unlikely that a bird would meet 5 'diseases' together anywhere in the wild' and by inference don't think it likely it would pick up 5 together.. I had a look at the links on this thread for 4-in-1 and $14 seemed reasonable until I discovered it was for just a few tabs, need to buy and lot more than that if it was even an average size flock ... my opinion its a form of mis-selling and 'prices start from $14' would be more truthful. Sorry, but even from the little I know of the immune system, these treatments are all just sugary water and a waste of my time and money - my opinion only - and I acknowledge folk have the right to their own opinion and spend their own money as they see fit.

There is no such thing as a preventative medicine. The way the immune system works, its got to 'see and recognise' invading organisms for what they are. These medicines aren't killed organisms like your PMV vaccine, they are just drugs, chemicals. And if the organism they are designed to kill isn't present, they go on to kill something else, like beneficial gut bacteria, or damage the various linings they come in contact with.. can't begin to imagine what a cocktail of 5 might do?

When I say preventative I mean vaccines and such like, I know taking cough mixture won't stop you from getting cough, the same as birds taking certain things will not stop them from becoming ill But you have to consider a flu jab if you are in a risk band, the same in birds with paramyxo and other ailmemts in a race enviroment, mixing with other birds. Some fanciers are like hypochondriacs with their birds, yet probably smoke and drink and have a crap diet, but god forbid, not their birds

Guest Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 I use 7in1 and I would say it was the best thing on the market. I will be spending a few bob on it at Blackpool this year I think you are referring to Aviform ultimate. Not a treatment as in 'antibiotic' but a supplement as in 'multivit' DMG and drinking water sanitiser. Have used it in the past and couldn't quite identify what the 7 products were.
