PRICES OF BIRDS FOR SALE

Recommended Posts

I think most birds are well over priced but the sorry thing is untill we learn to condition a bird and set it down for a certain race it wont matter if you have paid £10 quid or £1000 quid we might never find out what we have bought and the top breeder will go un noticed in many a loft

how many fanciers go to blackpool,,DEFINATELY not buying any this time ;D ;D  then you see them with a box ;D ;D ;D,,,,,,,fanciers cant resist it [done it myself ;D],,, and if it makes them happy good on them ,,, the price of a pigeon is worth to the buyer what he pays for it  ;D ;D ;D at least for a while you can dream youve got the best breeder etc ,,  ;D true ,,and for the inexperienced , makes them keener ,look after them better ,and feel better ,,,,,,,,but then there comes a time ;D ;D ;D you learn ,,but youve paid for your learning ;D ;D ;D

Definately not the place to buy birds blackpool ? clearance sales are dodgy aswell but if you can get to entire clearance sales where everything is for sale then you have got a chance but you still need a lot of luck !!! I prefer to go and buy a full round of latebreds off some one you trust but they have to be a better flyer than yourself or its not worth it !! and preferably within your area upto 30 mile round then atleast you know the birds are winning in your part of the country

and i always look inperticular for latebreds bred the same or off U.N.C wnrs    W.D.A wnrs - WDA SPRINT CHAMPIONS etc birds that are winning at the top in your area !!!

Getting back to prices i once went to a good flyer a few years ago about 16 mile from me he advertised some ybs for sale ( i never went to buy any he had a yb in belonging me) anyway he told us he had a man come up to buy some and when he saw them he asked why they were so cheap and did he have some better bred ones at a dearer price the man said yes he had some for £100 each ( i bet you can guess  ;D) he sold him the same £50 latebreds for £100 each the buyer was happier and the seller was over the moon ( just shows how you can taken for a ride !!!!

with regards to the comment "you only get what you pay for"

a very experienced fancier once told me

"you can breed a lot of rubbish from good birds but there is a chance you will breed a good un..............

howerver rubbish birds will only breed rubbish"

so yes i agree you need to get decent birds from well managed lofts but i still dont see how a good bird from a good shed equals loads of money ???

i have given away more pigeons than i have sold (i have a current thred re. free fantails at the moment) and wouldnt sell birds for big bucks.....however i have bought pigeons at £50 and £60 a pair because that has been the only way to get stock.mabey i am a fool but i have then gone on to sell good youngsters from these pairs at £10 each and tried to get my money back that way.

dont really have a problem with people making money from selling birds, its just not my style. after all this is a "HOBBY" to most of us.

to me a pigeon will always be worth roughly 1 bag of corn ie. a tenner.

If success in pigeon racing could be bought then we lesser mortals would probably just keep "pets" but fortunately pigeon racing is a great leveller and as a lot of the posts have shown sometimes, "The best things in life are free"

I know several fanciers who do the same, top household names as well

i think you get what you pay

10 pound pigeons will always be 10 pound pigeons

if you want to do well you want 1 family from 1 respectible loft and the golden pigeons to progress

AYE £10 to buy will always be what you paid for it £10, but if it became the best pigeon ever on record and breeding. I bet it would not be a £10 pigeon at a sale :-/

bang on homer but sadly is it a hobby or a business.

pigeons are easy to breed they cost nothing to raise ,where people get the prices  for a bag of feathers is beyound me .

look at all these fancy auctions of late birds selling for thousands ,now have they been purchased to improve there loft performances,or have they been bought to make money without testing the young .

dean pallat purchased all staff van reets pigeons for a large amount ,deans racing record there for all to see outstanding performances, sells his young birds for £100 each wanting some return for outlay of original cost .no complaints here.

now landing shy buys two pairs off dean pallat birds dosnt race just sells birds on the back of deans performances .direct pallat birds £60.00 each.

now landing shy is on a winner ,is he bothered if the purchaser wins with them no,will he sell pigeons off them next season yes. will he lower the price no,if he sold one which won would he use that persons performance to sell more yes.

beware theres loads of sharks in that there pond

Tammy I have birds that I couldn't give away, let alone sell ... it would break me heart lol.

WELL THERE WAS ANOTHER MEMBER ON HERE AS WELL, MAC 1, WHO WAS ALSO GIVING BIRDS AWAY FREE, OR SO HE THOUGHT, HE COULD NOT GIVE THEM AWAY YET PEOPLE QUEUE UP TO BUY BIRDS AT RIDICULOUSLY INFLATED PRICES, AS LONG AS THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF MUGS WILLING TO BUY THEM THEN THERE WILL BE NO SHORTAGE OF SELLERS RUBBING THEIR HANDS ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK.

WELL U GOT A FREE BASKET AND FREE RED PIGEONS ;D ;D

Well I don't know how yous can call them names like mugs and fools, they do seem to have something certainly me and I'd guess most of yous don't - a spare grand or two to spend on whatever pleases them. Wouldn't mind being that kind of mug mysel ;D

Its not just pigeons that people put their own value on. Applies equally well to things like model cars & trains, houses - is a house really worth £1m ? well it is to some cos they get bought & sold at that price - and Roland mention Shergar on another thread: thoroughbred racehorses, greyhounds ... list is endless.

People put their own value on things, what its worth to them, and sod-all to do with you or me. 'Nowt as queer as folk' as saying goes.

think you should pay double the price next time you buy off me dunc ;)

its funny that cars are mentioned on this thread cos for me it goes back to earlier comments that hav been made about it not being the pigeon but the management !

u could hav the fastest car ever built ....ferrari, honda ,mercedes . . . it dont matter,  if you aint got lewis hamilton to drive it  u is buggered !!

give the greatest racing pigeon in the world to a nob jockey who dont look after/train his birds and it will be last every week,  put a "lewis hamilton" in charge of it and it may just top the fed !!!!!!

Exactly and when I posted about the motivation of the fancier being as important as the motivation of the birds I wasn't joking, getting your cheque book out is not the answer.

Pete I would gladly pay 10 times the price you charged me for them white ones, because it was worth every penny and more ;) ;) ;)

im proud to say i gave pigeons away free to many fanciers ,,one namely mr mrs philips of truro cornwall ,,,,,,free ,,the son bred off my pigeon won the english nantes national ,incuding motor car [i then sent him many of the same family ,,free]

no thats right  chrissy,

and another thing ,    £100  /£1000  birds dont nessecarily breed £100/£1000 birds.

my father and i have had top pigeons that are 1st every week that breed smart pigeons but "rubbish" racers . . . . . . but the "rubbish" racers  they breed hav themselves produced winnrs !

Its up to the individual what they spend but does it make it a better pigeon, sure the management and again motivation on both the part of the pigeon AND more importantly the fancier.

I will stand by my original comment,

Genuine question and i hope someone gives an honest reply - How many people have paid a lot of money for a pigeon that has bred, done nothing but kept it just down to its original cost?
