westy Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 there is a lice spray and powder at the petshop you could use or just bath them in garlic water.
chickadee Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 I may try the garlic water, not too keen though of my doos smelling of garlic but however, if it means no lice i'll give it a try. :)

chickadee Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 put garlic in their bath and it will keep them clean, Do you use freshly squeezed garlic or can i use a liquid form of garlic?
Guest Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Do you use freshly squeezed garlic or can i use a liquid form of garlic? Use what best suits you. I put crushed fresh garlic in the drinking water on Saturdays and Sundays. I keep all the leftover bits that I have peeled or cut from the bulb and put that in a pint jug of water - and leave it for a week. That then goes into the Sunday bathwater, 5 gallons cold water, along with 10ml of malt vinegar.

Bruno will this kill any lice already oan the birds or will it just keep them clean after you've got them clean???? :-/
Guest Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Garlic water is an insecticide, it will kill any insect it comes in contact with. Up to last month my practice has been the weekly bath + infrequently, Harkers Feather drops, to keep the birds clean. From this month I've changed Harkers (insect repellant) drops to try Easitox (insecticide) drops. Active ingredient is Permethrin, deadly. Not used it yet, but have a sneaky feeling its the wrong move.
Ronnie Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 You gotta trust them sneaky feeling mate there usually the right feeling's.
jimmy white Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 How do you treat for feather lice? i use ivermectin , this clears any outside or iside parasites :)i,e worms etc in the inside and beasties on the outside ;D but the feather lice you mention youll find ,at some time , on most birds ,,by far the worst is mite,,, they actualy feed on the birds blood , and when infected can kill ybs in the nest in no time , render them anaemic [cant spell it ;D ;D ;D bloodless],, but the old garlic is wonderfull stuff, for many uses [but not scent ;D ;D ;D]
peterpau Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 I dip in duramitex twice a year Ivermectin every 6 weeks and tabacco in the nest. Guess what no lice.

So lice hate tobacco stalks then. We use them, do you get duramitex and Invermectin from the vet or do pigeon suppliers have them?
