ally mac Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Hi folks. I am up in Oban and planning to get involved in the Edinburgh One Loft Race, thanks to Kenny for his generous help. I would also like to get some birds and race from home but am not aware of any club near me. Any info on clubs or other possible options would be much appreciated. Al.
Guest Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Sorry, you are well away from any other club in Scotland. Nearest clubs South is in West of Scotland Fed, which is Loch Lomond, Dunbartonshire, and nearest club east is Stirling in North West Federation. Both Feds are many many miles away ... maybe a 5 hour round trip by road?
DOVEScot Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Call the SHU 01 698 286 983 they might be able to help

CAN YOU NOT GET ENOUGH FLIERS TO START A CLUB IN YOUR TOWN ?
Guest Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 I think the Greenock club might be your best bet they take in Rothsay and bute still a long way to go and even if you dont race in the club you can use the races for training for nationals Terry Markwick is a member of the form he might be able to help
ally mac Posted October 30, 2007 Author Report Posted October 30, 2007 Thanks for the replies. Loch Lomond/Dumbarton is about an hour and a half from here, not very handy but possible?? I will try the SHU as suggested. Unfortunately there aren't any other pigeon men close at hand though I have a couple of pals that may be interested. A long way from the makings of a club though. Thanks again and any other input appreciated. Al.
Guest Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 You might want to PM doos r us. He's a member of West of Scotland Fed, and the hub is Dumbarton.

ally mac Posted October 31, 2007 Author Report Posted October 31, 2007 Spoke to John Donnely today, Alexadria, he is going to ask at the next club meeting to see if the would have me. Its about an hour and twenty minutes from here. I could live with that if it got me going. Alf, is your friend Malcolm Brown? Al.
Guest Doostalker Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Ally Mac, give me a bell on 01369 705942. We are in Dunoon and there are 5 of us flying from here wioth the Greenock Club. We also have the Dunoon International Show on 1/2 December, and lots of fanciers come here for the weekend. we have a sale on the Saturday as well. Campbeltown is also a hot bed of Show Racers. Give me a bell any time.
Fair Play Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 I think the Vale is still marginally closer
Guest Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 I think the Vale is still marginally closer Depends on whether fanciers in Dunoon have the one person who takes all the birds across on the ferry to Greenock. then Oban - Dunoon might be a good bet, tho Ally Mac's clock being set at, collected from and returned to Greenock is another matter. If he's to go Oban to Greenock, then he's going thro the Vale & Dumbarton anyway. Talking about a further 45 minutes each way via the Erskine Bridge? Good that Ally Mac decided to sound out all of this well before the racing starts. Good luck to him, things seem a bit brighter. Doostalker's on the case

Hate to be the kill joy here but racing doos into Oban is a complete none starter Ally Mac, old John Sneddon who used to be across the water from you at Killiechronan could have told you that. He used to lose them if he tossed them further than Craignure and the numbers he lost to the hawks was unbelievable. Whatever you decide I wish you all the luck in the world because you will need it, or should I say your poor birds will need it!
THE FIFER Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Three is a start of a club, you never know, them you can share the cost to get to your nearest fed :-/ Out of small seeds etc you require 5 members to have a club with the shu. each having a seperate loft, so 5 members with separate lofts.
Fair Play Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 I took the chance last year to fly over the whole area and it looks ok from the ground but up there it is mountainous the up- currents were terrible chucked us all over the place it will be a hard fly for the birds it's hard enough getting them into the West then you have another 75 miles hoestly best of luck if you decided to try it
DOVEScot Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 you require 5 members to have a club with the shu. each having a seperate loft, so 5 members with separate lofts. Well he's more than half way there with 3 ;D
Guest Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 well done ally your half way there iam sure John will sort you out
ally mac Posted October 31, 2007 Author Report Posted October 31, 2007 Hi chaps. Been talking to a few folk today and sussing out the options. (thanks for the chat Terry, will let you know as things progress) Not sure what way to go yet but I shouldnt be stuck. I have been flying rollers for a few years and the hawks in the immediate area arent too much of a problem. Lost a few last year to a falcon but havnt seen him atall this year. I have a pal in perth that hasnt been able to fly all year which is rather sad. As I say, still sussing things out. All the advice and help is much appreciated. Al.
