Ronnie Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 When is it best to train my youngsters they on the darkness system and are darkend from 4pm to 9am should i wait till i take them of the darkness to train or should i start training them now? They are on open hole from 9am till 3pm everyday they are ranging really well(is this a good or bad thing?) going out of site for an hour a time at least a couple of times a day.
crazy pigeon boy Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 i would leave the training for a few more weeks let them range a little more round the loft but if you think they are ready then you can start training as long as they have been ranging for a few weeks

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 I leave them ranging untill two weeks before first race , the more they see the better, training too early I think curtails the countryside they see if you pm me harky i will tell you what curtail means
Guest Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 ;D curtail Tam ?? ....... is that the bit that hangs down from the back of youre jacket ?? ;D ;D ;D ;D andy 8)
jimmy white Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 would be hapy to see them ranging like this ,,but would take this oppertunity in basket training them [ie feeding and water in basket] and liberating 5 miles away each time, when next feed is due , this wont stop them ranging , but educate them very young [ifind the younger the better, ie 10 weeks] i have found in training darkness ybs too late , they can be lost easy [basket trained, overnight, 5 mile toss , hungry , once per week, straight in the loft , fed , youll benefit in the long run ]
Guest Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 at what age would u say youngsters should start to range ?? thanks in advance? andy 8)
Guest Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 definately leave em ranging, mine are on open hole all summer till about 3 weeks before racing then first couple tosses 12 miles then straight out to 25 miles. You can bet they have been way past that during the summer outings. Had youngsters disappear for 4 hours or more before on a windy day. Probably rode the wind for an hour and had to fight it back for 3 hours lol. Let em have some fun!!!
schouwman71 Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 if mine were going for a few hours ,why wait while 2 weeks before the first race when everybody will be at it,getem trained soon as possible and get them there line because if you leave it while everybody else starts they will get split up and you will be waiting all night for them.
