Do you really need ETS

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking whether or not I really want ETS.

I have won all there is to be won in club racing and I know that ets will more than likely change the outcome in a short club race. I now intend to concentrate only on national and classic racing from over the channel but my way of thinking is that if ETS gains those extra yards I just better concentrate on getting my birds home before an ets member gets his.

My question is do you really need ETS to be competetive from now on in national competition?

Any views welcome.

Thanks

no mate you dont need it. where it comes in handy is if you want detailed times for all your birds that were entered in a race or training. people who work shifts or with young familys might appreciate it more than a retired person or someone who is at home every race day. all it does is record a time for your bird same as a stb, T3, toulet, etc etc. people talk of some fanciers filling the result with their birds well these fanciers can do it just now with T3`s so what is the difference.

some clubs have a rule where your first 3 birds timed go forward to the club result but all your birds are eligable for the fed result. all depends how you want to handle it. for me there are two main benefits, if i have to work on the saturday i can still send and get a time, and when the birds come home they dont have a crazed loony chasing them around to pull a rubber off their leg.

ets wont make your birds get home any quicker and wont make you an overnight superstar.....good bird and good management will..... 8)

Well put and also good for training as you can take birds out and time them back easily on your own

Might encourage younger members who do not want to be tied in on a race day :-/

Sorry Darren but I cant see your reasoning in the statement Do you realy need ETS to be competetive, how is it going to make you competitive fair enough you might gain a couple of seconds on the fast races but i still cant see how a timing device can make you competetive or not.My reasons for having it are,I am a taxi driver and some times I may be away from the loft and there.s no one to time in with ETS no problem but i will always be there if I can.For national racing I think it will be even better, you may have 2 races the same day and have to go to your club say at 7 but still be waiting on national birds with ets no problem it will clock them for you well your gone, another thing perhaps there is no birds home on the day you might over sleep the next morning and miss the birds, no problem with ets.

Pretty much spot on to what my thoughts are Karl!

With ETS #1 You don't have to be present when birds arrive home. #2 You don't have to handle birds at all after homing. It will allow you to see what order the birds are coming home.  However you must weigh the cost of the system .  These things aren't cheap!!!!  Club has to use all same system they are not interchangeable.  In the US the electronic pad must be inside the outer wall of the loft!!! Some folks can have them I think on exterior landing boards.  If you don't like to be tied up on race days I believe this is for you!!!  I like waiting on my birds after all I take care of them all year long.  Just my thoughts!!!       jimbobboy  USA

As you are in USA I guess that things are differant over there ,here the club can use all the systems at the same time as the ruling is they have to be compatible,it is also a rule that the pads must be inside the lofts not on exterior landing boards.

I think this sums up exacly what ETS is about and wish some of the anti brigade would realise this.

Is it not just bringing pigeon racing into the 21st century, the age of computers and technology, nothing to do with quality and ability of fanciers or birds :-/

Been looking in to ETS, for the whole club.At first I was in favour of ETS but the more I look into it the more tricky it seems. For the fancier, no problem just take home your clock and wait for the birds then take it back to the club. But for the secretary it looks a nightmare, all the birds to assign rings for before the season starts, thats every bird that every member intends to race. Some members have over a hundred birds, all to have a ring assigned at £1.20 each! Not sure if we'll go down the ETS route.

Can't really expect one person to do all the work, these duties are shared in our club. Agree assigning is a big job, but so is the initial set-up of e.g. current computer race programmes, when details like members distances etc have to be input. But once its all there, its a more efficient system.

how many would have got it if there was no lottery grants :-/

We've just got our Unikon system for the Club members thanks to the Lottery fund, but personally I don't think I would buy it, but then I said that about the T3's when they first came out. Too dear I said, now I've got two.

I think once the furore about the extra seconds being gained on trapping, or rather, less time being lost, fanciers will begin to realise the other benefits that ETS brings to the Sport. Whether we like it or not, modern day living crams more into people's schedules than they can sometimes handle, and ETS gives the sport of Pigeon Racing the flexibility that manual clocking cannot

. No longer is the fancier tied to the loft, promised days out will no longer have to be cancelled due to the dreaded holdover or late lib. Weddings can be attended, no need to call in sick or miss a days pay when they're heldover till the Monday. We all want to be there for the birds but at least ETS is there for you should emergencies occur, your own Silent Partner.

As a working fancier who takes the birds to work for training purposes it will be very nice to be able to see exactly how they come, I also belong to a Mid-week Club which brings its own problems, but ETS will be there should the birds have to be liberated early.

Just like the T3s when they first came out ETS will be considered a 'luxury item', but give it 10yrs
