doo.racer Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Any thoughts / interest in the idea in last weeks BHW letters of a UK race from Germany?
doo.racer Posted October 28, 2007 Author Report Posted October 28, 2007 Would need to be Frankfurt as there is too much water to cover by the birds racing to the north
Guest Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 I think it maybe came a bit too late in the calendar for UK LOng Distance clubs to get to grips with it for 2008 - its certainly not on SNFC management proposed programme for 2008; We have had a few discussions on a westerly race on the forum and the distances shown prove the point that up here in Scotland it would be a great distance leveller with most lofts in Scotland contained within a range of 100 miles at most. Note your point about the wind. Steve Appleby has written that the wind blows a lot stronger across open water than it does on land; and for us anyway that's up to 400 miles of open water if the birds don't fly the dog-leg, twice the water the Lerwick birds face before making Scottish landfall. World champions in the making, flying a route like that????
doo.racer Posted October 28, 2007 Author Report Posted October 28, 2007 Wonder what support it would get from Scotland?
doo.racer Posted October 28, 2007 Author Report Posted October 28, 2007 Just checked the map. From Frankfurt to central Scotland there is 650 miles. 200 or so over water.
doo.racer Posted October 28, 2007 Author Report Posted October 28, 2007 What about the other club up there in Scotland? SNRPC. They seem up for distance racing. Good Fanciers by the sound of it. Had some tremendous results.
wayne77 Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Yes definately up for that. Lets hope can happen with all nationals/classics/large combines involved. The SNRPC had some great performances from long distances races in last 3 years. No fear from the members get the greatest respect from me This could be great for pigeon racing on this island and would open the eyes of pigeon sport worldwide
Guest Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Great idea i hope it comes off i would love to have a go at that iam sure john proctor and co would love that!!!!!!!
shotgun tim Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 i fly in both the snfc and snrpc i think it would be great to race from germany

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Geordie you will find the Dundee distances in the table below. ;D Racepoint Frankfurt Kassel Hanover Hamburg Location London 400 413 424 450 Leeds 506 494 478 472 Newcastle 549 525 498 477 Bristol 501 521 529 547 Liverpool 550 547 535 534 Dundee 610 510 409 401 Cardiff 529 546 554 571 Aberdeen 658 617 575 535 Edinburgh 637 610 578 551 Exeter 540 567 581 604 Glasgow 670 654 614 588 Belfast 691 679 660 647
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 !!!Ok here is the correct distance of the racepoint's in to Dundee. Racepoint Frankfurt Kassel Hanover Hamburg Location Dundee 652 621 585 554 London 400 413 424 450 Leeds 506 494 478 472 Newcastle 549 525 498 477 Bristol 501 521 529 547 Liverpool 550 547 535 534 Cardiff 529 546 554 571 Aberdeen 658 617 575 535 Edinburgh 637 610 578 551 Exeter 540 567 581 604 Glasgow 670 654 614 588 Belfast 691 679 660 647
FOXY Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Think a race like this would justify a big response
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 There is a lot of worries that go along with racing from Germany i.e the span of water that the birds have to cross also added to that if birds were facing a strong headwind could they make land before fall of dark?. On the other hand if given perfect weather conditions i am sure that the UK could have a race that they have never seen before where all members fly within a distance of 133 miles from each other.
blackjack Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 This was done years ago the British Berlin Club it was quite successful but as NE fanciers dropped distance racing the club folded. It whould have to a national club as the Up north combine struggle to send 2,000 to Bourges. They are sprint mad now no more Blue Boys anymore.
