Ok so could a stall holder put pedigree's on pen then when sold go get the birds out of his van which is parked down the road and give to the buyer? He wouldnt be in the same building and neither would his birds i know it sounds a bit underhanded but if ive read the rules right this could be a solution at fairs provided the birds are kept in different vehicles in different car parks :).

Ronnie i think that may have gone on at telford and don't think it is illegal as all the birds in the van belong to the stud. When we race we are allowed to take our own birds but not our mates. If you take someone elses birds it is a gathering however petty it is.

Roland ALL shows should be cancelled as these are gatherings according to DEFRA. Is it worth risking the wrath of defra just for the shows. they could just blanket ban in future if pigeon shows go on without licence. Then not even the cries from the RPRA will be listened to and that will mean no racing.

Well I slept on what I posted last night.  :)

I think there is a line (or two) missing from the guidance at ***** which would maybe have made the procedure a bit clearer - 'During the event they must be the only flock on the premises or it will become a gathering.  The premises will include the palce where the birds  ***** (this includes the venue car park). '

I also think that what is being attempted when more than one single flock is being sold off is that the auctions are timed so that only one group of birds are in the place at a time. When the first auction is over, these birds are removed, the pens cleaned and the birds for the 2nd auction then arrive & are penned etc ....

That would therefore explain why the Telford stallholders couldn't have pigeons on them, (1) it would be impossible to 'time' in the same way as an auction and (2) more than one group of birds in the place at the same time = a gathering, which isn't allowed.

I have more than a passing interest in this as our club's shows started on 11th November with Young cocks, but got cancelled from the 18th.

How an AI outbreak in poultry in Norfolk makes a local pigeon show in Falkirk a high risk affair for spreading the disease is way beyond me.  :-/

Noted there was an individual who is prepared to put £100,000 into taking on DEFRA, but DEFRA are now in financial difficulty, and I believe efforts should be made to hit them hard in the midst of their own difficulties with a number of simultaneous lawsuits.

NFU are said to be poised to launch on F&M, and RPRA has already done so on AI; If the fancy breed societies -  pigeons, canaries, parrots etc - were also to go for it now, combined action might raise public awareness on the extent of the problem, and of course, might increase all our chances of winning the day.

What has that got to do with going to a show that is legit?

This is exacly what happened as the two guys who I took to the show both bought birds off the same guy.

Well the answer is car boot sales me thinks, perhaps Blackpool should move to the biggest car park in britain and the stalls could be in the back of the van.

Advantages

Would cut costs, no rent for accomodation, only need money for parking meters, no car park charge on sunday, no need to offload and re load van. less  staff needed, could set up a stud for the sale and then revert to racing no one would know, could have a complete clearnce and continue to fly,no need for a licence got a parking ticket. Could have drive thru sales, endless possibilities, even put the van up for sale if all stock sold.

Sorry I know it's serious but waht a farce!!

Lee made the deal with Defra and Trading standards in order to save the show and give some motivation for people to attend. He tried equally to save the trade stand but they didnt budge on that note!!!!!

I believe it cost Lee £17,000 to hire the venue and he is desperate to try and improve the RP so far play to him i say.

P.S.i had an auction and trade stand so for what advanttage i gained i also lost!!!!

Alan i think i know who the fancier is with the £100,000 if its the person im thinking it is he will act.As for DAFRA words fail me but we must keep at them like a good Jack Russell keep at them and do not let go.

Stuart, agreed, flippancy was not meant to cast a slur on the orginisation of the event but rather illustrate the ridiculous situation we find ourselves in (and add some humour, ok so it didn't work!) . The new guy at the RP seems a good un and I wish him well.

Roland, as far as i know there are NO legit shows while defra has a "no gatherings" notice out. They said no racing so i think that this would also mean no shows. I may be wrong and will take the flack if i am but that is my reading on it.

I feel for the show men among us and the shows are good for sociable days or nights but I thought that this is a racing site.

If DEFRA make an example of pigeon men it will make an example of ALL pigeon men even the ones not attending these shows. sorry and ladies of course.

Sorry I thought it was called PIGEONS Basics, and as such it also has 'Show / Fancy pigeons as well as other topic. Indeed I believe that ANYTHING related to pigeons.... Could be wrong I suppose and having a tubbles day!

And if one cares to ask, you can have shows provided certain aspects fall in line with DAFRA ... So ask them Tubbles.

If the Sec says it is legit, then you can bet your bottom dollar it is so... and legit!

Going by your way of thinking then, why were there no birds apart from auctions at telford. If it was as simple as getting a certificate from Defra i can't believe it was not looked into. Especially by the ones trying to sell birds.

Never mind it is over now and like i said i am prepared to take any flack for being wrong. It was my opinion and as usual i am wrong .... again lol  :B

The only shows authorised are 'single bird or single flock'. That to me is more akin to an exhibition or display, like the local raptor centre showing off some of its collection in a town centre mall, for example.

Same as others, our club shows have been cancelled too ... they aren't allowed.

Never thought there was Tubs, But will be at a meeting on Thursday - doing a 'Fund Raiser' for youth football team, and the Sec of that is that same sec.

If any different then be sure I'd post as such.
