DOVEScot Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 How much do you think is a fair price for taking pigeons on training exercises, cost per bird/10mile away from set pickup point any day I may even organise pigeon delivery as well if it was feasible For example 10p/10miles would be 50p/50miles each bird, sending 10 birds for a 50mile training exercise would be £5.00
rembrant2coo Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 there is a chap from ballingry takes the birds for training they go to soutra and sometimes carfrae mill he takes £3 for 25 over that is 10p a bird pick-up at lomond centre, thornton ,cluny,c/beath and x/gates he is very busy ;)

Tony C Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 I think 10p per mile per pigeon is good value for those that have only a small team, works out pretty expensive though if you have a large team that needs to be trained 2 or 3 times a week. I'd charge the 10p per mile but would give the big senders a little something back
rembrant2coo Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 How many does he take altogether and roughly the distance, is that carfrae haddington i,ve seen him with about a thousand birds then some weeks he has less it all depends on the weather or if boys are working or different reasons (carfrae mill is between soutra and lauder)

I could make this viable for all, but only if people were interested in a service.

DOVEScot Posted November 20, 2007 Author Report Posted November 20, 2007 i ment to say the distance would be about 30 miles from soutra hill and about 40 from carfrae mill Basically looking for groups of lofts in a 30 - 120 miles radius it would be feasible to pick birds up at that distance and release on the way home, this would cover the most of Scotland Aberdeen is 120 miles, if I could pick up in fife and release in aberdeen, then pick up in aberdeen and release in fife on the same day. I could really cut the costs organising similar throughout Scotland.
Guest karl adams Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 i beleave you must have a licens and a insurence to carry birds tho
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 A club in our fed charge £3.00 per person if you have 1 bird or 100 birds it's only £3.00 which is fair and they train 50miles twice a week
Guest shadow Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 you have to have a convoyers licence and carry certificates of vaccination too cover the birds you are transporting. I used to do it for our club and gave up in the end as you could never get copies of the vaccination certificates of some members mind you I was only stopped twice by DEFRA officials ??)

Thanks Vaccination certifcates re ring numbers could be kept on a laptop to verify they are vaccinated. Is this not done when racing birds as well Everything would be done to meet regulations, but no point if nobody is interested in the service.

I tried to offer a delivery and collection service from Newcastle to Aberdeen but again it was going to cost people money and the responce was a joke. I for one would take you up on your offer for sure give the birds a good rumbble up with birds from all over lothians and fife

Anyone wants to do it for free, dad on don't let me hold you back ;D ;D ;D
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 If you do start it up give me a pm and I might get a few other guys round here to send aswell
Guest Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 some guys in our club train our birds,£3 for any amount of birds ...25ml toss. and that comes with a phonecall to say birds liberated.

Is that £3 a basket or £3 no matter how many? If I am going to another area with my van, as a favour I release an old guys pigeons for him and text him the time I released them, He does not race anymore due to illness but loves timing in his birds he has left
madmaxlofts Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 i train on the transporter about 25 ml toss 10p per bird great value
GREENGRASS Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 all of the prices above are reasonable, when you work out how much you spend yourself just on youngsters in one season taking them out to 30 miles not just on fuel but time involved etc... 3 tosses a week from say 30 miles is a total of 180 miles which is a good half tank of fuel for most also would take approx 6 - 7 hours of your time. so if you were sending 40 youngsters at 20p each = £8.00 x 3 =£24.00 almost the cost of half a tank of fuel but with 6 hours saved for something else, also no wear and tear on your own vehicle. there are plenty of clubs and private individuals offering good service and convenient pick up points so my advice is to make the most of these services as they really do save you and not just ££££
Roland Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 £2 a basket... and then just see the members sharing and cramming them in the baskets! No price is or will ever be deemed fair, more like 'Can't be that dear'! Then watch them train seperately again hoping to steal a march.
sammy Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 train me own pigeons always have and always will take great joy in it costs dont interest me its me hobby and if anything goes wrong only me self to blame none else ,enjoy what yi do ;D ;D ;D

I was hoping to buy a trailer that released all the birds at once, then text everyone the time they were liberated :-/
Roland Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 Yeah I perfer to see them released too ... and am way back before them Lol. : : :'( ;D
