can anyone advise on my problem?novice just waiting delivery of my first birds.ive a 2 inch gap between my roof at the front and back of my loft for air flow,can the birds get through it and escape?any advise would be good,thanks.

You need to put 1/4 inch mesh behind those vents and any other openings - even if your pigeons can't get out - you'll get allsorts getting in - rats, mice etc - which will cause allsorts of health problems in your birds

We have the gap at the top same as yours and we have screwed cable track to the soffet and on the inside we have rolled up 1/4 inch mesh to just over the diameter to the gap and these fit in snuggly and we can take them out if needed.

good idea to roll the mesh up, never thought of that, it can then be taken out for cleaning,

That's Dovescots engineering..... ;D

 

will be getting mine sorted after blackpool, as it is now not easy to clean, where rolled up can be taken down anytime,

possibly but the main threat from dowelled fronts is wild birds sparrows etc when spring comes they will be in for down feathers for nesting
