swilcox Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 With the news that Peter Bryant is stepping down as General Manager do you think a younger pigeon fancier like myself could steer UK pigeon racing in the future? and do you think i would get support from the old guard? My policies would include the following; 1) RPRA organised National racing that will be flown in 3 different distance bands with narrow sections from 3 different race points. Highest velocity from 3 races would win a gold cup and all races to be flown in the Golden Series and winner crowned the National Champion plus provisional champions etc. 2) No alternative racing to take place on National weekends. Feds and combines to be supported in co-orinating a short distance program, combines and feds to assist in transport on National events 3) RPRA to co-operate with the BICC, NFC, MNFC, NWGN and UNC to co-ordinate and stucture a race program to reduce cost and increase resources and PR. 4) RPRA to co-ordinate membership applications to clubs. 5) establish an indipendent body to audit One Loft Races. 6) Implement a clearer and more rewardable system to reconise National Ace Pigeons and Fanciers. 7) The diversion of Charitable funds to a trust fund to support Pigeon Racing in the Future. 8) An incentive program to help retired people back into the sport. 9) A commercial commitee to investigate commplaints on selling and advertising pigeons etc. 10) To reduce costs set up a common England/wales/scotland/ireland administration centre. 11) Liberation Coordinator to be recruited for yb racing. 12) Transport Coordinator to be recruited to reduce costs and arrange a economic transport system. I could go on but i properly think pigeon racing might not be ready for me. Stuart Wilcox
Ian McKay Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Most definately But will the OLD brigade let you : : : : Pigeon racing needs changes and someone like you to manage it
pjc Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Some good ideas, but you will never get nationals to get together or many combines. What would happen is you would get breakaway associations forming seperate from the RPRA!
pjc Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Stuart, also they will be looking for somebody highly educated to deal with the like of DEFRA etc, would you be able to do that?
swilcox Posted March 3, 2008 Author Report Posted March 3, 2008 I have a degree in Eletrical Engineering, I have built and designed 15 million pounds of new state of the art machinary including the worlds biggest mega shredder but most importantly i have been a pigeon fancier for 29 of my 35 years, i care and i believe we have a future.
pjc Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Go for it then Stuart, sorry, wasn't knocking you just that you will have to fight the dinosaurs first! Good luck
Jeremy Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 And could you cope with all the women at the reddings :K)
Guest spin cycle Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 BLIMEY....talk about 'close the door on the way out' peter.not sure it's a political position requing a'manifesto' . thought job was to represent members wishes(perhaps thats where i'm going wrong).but you've got my vote if only for enthusiasm
hepste Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Well, you've got plenty of radical ideas Stuart. As previously stated though, you are there to carry out the wishes of the members, and it is they you would need to convince before changes can take place - that will be a job in itself! I can see you're passionate about the sport (same here), and it certainly needs a fresh approach and plenty of thrust to take us forward. I hope you decide to go ahead with an application, and good luck.
Roland Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 BLIMEY....talk about 'close the door on the way out' peter.not sure it's a political position requing a'manifesto' . thought job was to represent members wishes(perhaps thats where i'm going wrong).but you've got my vote if only for enthusiasm Why? Never happen yet so why does one think anything will ever change. Favoured few / positioned will get in again with the ole school tie scenario. Indeed they have a wierd sense that because it is a 'Name' and what is in their interest then it must be cosher. Will be the same mark my words. First proper and sensible step would be - though they can well afford it any way - to levy a little £1 and attain a PR Firm! To put our countless qualms into the media via a proper professional body. One that is not 'Pigeon Orenitated, as they would see the way forward from a proper A. Joe public view, and B. they have built in 'Think Tanks' and C. the means to Lobby and also access to the all important 'Corridor' politic.
jimmy_bulger Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 as they say you gotta be in it to win it,and also if you dont try you wont get. you go for it stuart bacause this is the 21st century after all. best of luck ,jimmy.

Stuart Wilcox You do have some good ideas in theory, but do not take offence at this but I do not think you have the necessary person to person relation skills,so I do not think you would be suitable for such a position
