Carlsberg, If you take your birds straight from your darkened loft training you would have the same problem but anybody who flies darkness wouldn'tdo that!

The birds will be trained during normal light hours so will have adjusted there sun/time clock!

Not too sure about using the sun as a lot of our race days are cloudy and wet

There is the exceptional days that the sun shines but the birds would have to have great powers of mental recovery  - that is remembering what the sun looked like. What about these birds that have been bred with literary no beak and can't feed their young, verging cruelty if you ask me :(

They have a different eyesight to us so reckon they'll see the sun OK.

Thought it was an excellent programme basically pointing out that even in 21st century, how little we know about the pigeons homing instinct.

Also queries that other 'sun theory' - if all these other animals rely on earths magnetic fields, how come only pigeons are affected, and only when they are racing?

there are loads of different theories how pigeon home but the son must have a lot to do with it,pigeons wont clear if it is overcast with no sun you would have massive gaps racing in those conditions.one time experimenting with pigeons,it was a sunny day and they liberated them in the middle of the sea they would not clear the reason being they were confused because the could see the reflection of the sun in the water.i saw this quite a few years ago.
