REDCHEQHEN Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 I have just had one of my pigeons reported dead - by a worker on the Forth Road Bridge Edinburgh - her ring was found in a falcons nest - went missing from first race - she was a lovely hen aswell my thanks to the worker on the Forth Bridge for taking the time to phone and let me know
lozza Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Take a look who says pigeons are stupid!! does that look like a green racing pigeon ring in the bottom of the shots of falcon nest ?
DOVEScot Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Not in this area they are not, they are abundant, and the good thing is they keep the hawks at bay most of the time re territory, we have four in our surrounding area, but we still get the occassional visit from the hawk, possibly young ones as the same bird has escaped the grim reaper twice ;D ;D ;D Spoke to early, we came home from the hosptal late last night to find one of the cote birds hawked in the front garden
carlsberg Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 does that look like a green racing pigeon ring in the bottom of the shots of falcon nest ? it sure does

Merlin Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Just looked in on above, either a still picture,or its dead on the nest,no prizes for guessing which one I hope it is.
Merlin Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Looked again you are correct Shadow, wishful thinking on my part, four eggs, lets hope they dont hatch.
timbarra Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 A very interesting and informative site, but as a pigeon fancier and bird lover of most kinds I find it disgusting,on realizing the amount of effort being put in by so many to further the production of even more of these already overpopulated predators,at the expense of all types of birds, fair comment
jimmy white Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Just had a look and the interest is high, 100378 views, You can bet your bottom dollar that all pigeon rings will be removed from the box, but will they let any one now, ? It has cost around £5000, for the box and all the accesories to be purchased. a few years ago, i handed into the shu about 300 pigeon rings ,[including the letters], given to me by gamekeepers all over the n. of england and the s of scot ,,,,,,,,,these were rings that were found on the ground under the perigrines nests , after the rspb had cleared their nests of rings?? not one of the rspb found rings were reported or given back to the owners of the rings [who paid for them] kinda like stealing really???
ken Posted May 4, 2008 Author Report Posted May 4, 2008 one oft he eggs have hatched you can see the shell in the nest
Merlin Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Derby pair have hatched all eggs four in total, now the real fun begins,as she has started to hunt, how many pigeons will she have to slaughter to rear these four, and in turn how many will they slaughter,it goes on and on.
Merlin Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Ooops Sorry only three hatched, got to be grateful for small mercies .
tommy d Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Have you noticed they have disconnected the camera that was on the other side of the nest were they eat? Guess they don’t want us to see the rings.
just ask me Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 maybe someone s send an emaill and ask why was the cam taken down of the site
Guest karl adams Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 i thought the rspb were supposed to protect birds not look after the ones that kill all other birds no wonder we see a decline in the song birds that used to visit our gardens and the country side
