Guest Vic Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Hi Guys, What is the furthest a pigeon has been recorded, flying on the day into Great Britain? The latest Tarbes result had some outstanding pigeons on the result sheet, flying vast distances. B.Denny had a few flying 748 miles on the day, and "Ribbles" performance was also brilliant, as was Brezzys pigeon from Liverpool. WOW!

Guest Vic Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Surely, I thought the Pigeon Basic Guys where up with all aspects of the game! Some of you Jocks, MUST know the Scottish record? How many miles on the day is it? I'm disillusioned to say the least.
Guest Vic Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Perhaps one of you Irish lads, can help out, or is it not in the Guinness book of records? lol.
davey33 Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Well done to brian denny always been a top class long distance fancier. if anyone wants to look at the full result go to the national flying club site theres some outstanding performances over 700 miles especially the bird at 13th open flying a distance of 722 miles and 25th open flying a distance of 743 miles truly outstanding performances well done to all.
Guest Vic Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Didnt there used to be something on it in the yearly RP books Yes Rose! if you take "Quo Vadis" into account, (Came back on a ship that one, from Gilbraltar) Put it this way. If somebody said to any football fan. What football team are the cream of Britain? (Having won the European cup FIVE TIMES) Most will not replyl YES! is JEALOUSLY most peoples downfall.
JADE Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 i think it may well be a british record. i think there was a bird or birds timed in fraserburgh or peterhead from nantes a few years ago but i may be wrong. that would be around 720 miles. some of the north guys will know
Guest Vic Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Ok guys! We've all got hangovers from this horrible weekend. But give some glory to the ones that had the lull before the storm.
Guest Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Vic, the record into the North East is around 630-650 miles on the day, and was acheived only about 5 or 6 years ago. As far as the UK goes, i am at a loss with all the organizations. I don't know if Jim Emerston's Barcelona Dream done it on the day, but he flew Barcelona into York, which I believe is around 750 miles, if not further!
frank-123 Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 the snfc distance is 600-700 miles at most looking at my snfc book 650 miles on the day 1988 donaldson and downie 1466 vel vic unless they maybe raced with the nfc into scotland that would give a further distance
Guest Vic Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Pigeon Racing? It'll drive you crackers sometimes! After the wonderful performances from Tarbes, where many WINNING records were broken, only to be followed in a day or two, by so many, LOSING so many. Yes a an unpredictable game indeed.

Dicky, I should imagine that Barcelona to York must be nearer to 900 miles. Because an old mate of mine won the northern section TWICE Flying over 800 miles.
frank-123 Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 i know clockman timed two birds flying over 1000 miles don't know how long they took or what race it was
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Remember W Findlay of Cambuslang winning 2nd open SNFC Niort in 1991 i beleive he timed his Blue pied hen at 20.35?? flying about 675 miles, forum member Scott Irving and his dad were 1st open that very same race, i think i would be right in saying that these were the only 2 birds on the day.
andy Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 The furthest flying national winner into Scotland is Dennis Dall who won Niort a distance of 697 miles although it was a second day pigeon. The furthest winning DAY pigeon timed was that of Donaldson & Downie from Rattray at 650 miles from Nantes in 1988.
frank-123 Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 andy is that the same downie who has done well over the last couple of years len downie of errol

Cracking performances from both your mate and Jim Emerton!
andy Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 andy is that the same downie who has done well over the last couple of years len downie of errol Not sure Bart you will need to ask a fifer but I dont think so. Len Downie is the best all-round flyer in Fife for the last 3 or 4 years by a mile.....that comments bound to upset one or two but its true.
Guest slugmonkey Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 We had a race here where we had four ( 4 ) 700 mile day birds it made the cover of the racing digest we have a picture of it on the wall of the club house I will send a picture of it
Guest Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 andy is that the same downie who has done well over the last couple of years len downie of errol yes hes the same downie, great flyer

Yes Andy we were 1st west section 4th open to Dennis that year 1990 it was a gale of a west /North west wind and remember A Deans saying to me that he had never seen a wind as strong as that in all the time he had kept pigeons in a race from France. Still have the fresh memories of him being on the roof and timing him in. Cheers PS Bring back Niort 673 miles
frank-123 Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 donaldson of petehead from tours race 2005 2 birds flying 707 miles 2nd day
