sapper756 Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 So where does that leave us Scots lads, if we get a bird reported down south, and the unions insist you have to send for it? is there any other carrier that deals with pigeons, from England, upto Scotland? :-/ Or if we wish to purchase birds from one of the many studs down south :-/ :K)

DOVEScot Posted August 26, 2008 Author Report Posted August 26, 2008 Looks like a network of fanciers will need to be set up then, there are plenty of people on here from all over the country There is already a network of fanciers that do this to the best of their ability but it will never be able to cover all the country. You need a hub that can network all the deliveries to be carried out in one day from north/south/east/west the day you go over that time scale you are looking at maybe feeding and watering birds, holding lofts, health certificates and maybe even quarantine times and maybe much more :-/
cemetary Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 Amtrak had there licence revoked 3 months ago, they were still delivering pigeons though. :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

cemetary Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 Will just have to put the brakes on buying birds just now until something gets sorted for delivery up here in Scotland. What else can we doo. ?
DOVEScot Posted August 26, 2008 Author Report Posted August 26, 2008 Amtrak had there licence revoked 3 months ago, they were still delivering pigeons though. :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ I could not understand this either but it came from someone who deals with licences as I asked them for a list of couriers that can transport birds :-/
Chris Little Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 Surely now SPDS will react and expand it's pigeon trade south of the border
Guest strapper Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 if the license was revoked 3 mths ago surely they would be breaking haulage rules and entitled to be fined for it. also they had no insurance to cover the birds in transit.
OLDYELLOW Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 sue them lol they have gone bust so wouldnt get a jar of fart gas out of them
Guest Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 We're stuffed in the SW too, the phantom flyer (or anybody else) doesn't come West Somerset, Devon or Cornwall
DOVEScot Posted August 26, 2008 Author Report Posted August 26, 2008 Surely now SPDS will react and expand it's pigeon trade south of the border Lets hope so but they will not expand just to get the pigeon business they would need the other parts of the courier business as well Amtrak was a national parcel courier that supplimented their income by also transporting pigeons not the other way about, we need a national courier willing to take on the tranport licence to carry birds now that Amtrak has ceased :-/
OLDYELLOW Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 well i think the biggest problem will be stray returns , all unions should make all transporters carry a stray basket , i put my strays in a box with transporter driver and hes more than happy to help them on there way , as for buying birds well id make sure if i was buying i had visited loft and would be happy if not eager to bring any new pigeons to there new home ,
Guest Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 40,000 MEMBERS X£2 =£80,000 ONCE A YEAR TO DO IT OUR SELVES [HAS IT SUNK IN YET]
Guest chrisss Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 by the end of today the big studs will already have a back log,how long can they take that for, before they start to have to "reduce" the backlog, and what happens if the press gets hold of that, can you picture the headlines
Guest shadow Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 on approaching other parcel couriers they are not interested in applying for a livestock licence there are a few that advertise in cage bird mags but they want £ 50 per consignment
