robbie1 Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 last week i had a youngster of mine reported through the rpra all the way up in liverpool youngster had been missing from a race for 6 weeks, all my birds have my mobile phone number ring on there legs. through the rpra i have my mums home number registerd and my mobile number which is on 24hrs day 7 days week. when visiting my mum she said a chap had rung her saying he had a pigeon of mine that had been in his lofts hour and half,i duely rung this chap i asked him why he didnt ring the number on its leg his reply was it hasnt got 1 on it hasnt a race rubber on neither thats why i rung rpra the chap asked me if he could keep the pigeon i said yes he could and i would sort the pedigree and transfer for him in the next week or so he also said pigeon was skinny as a rake and covered in mud.well blow me down on returning from paper shop yesterday morning at 11am the youngster of mine returned in TIP TOP CONDITION WITH ITS RACE RUBBER AND MY PHONE NUMBER RING ALL STILL ON IT!!! THE PIGEON WOULD WIN A SHOW HANDS DOWN!!. why did this person have to lie to me?? did he want me to think the bird had been in else where and someone else had took rubber and number ring off and i would say dispose of it it really baffles me
Guest peter.j Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 name and shame robbie....pete[you can pm it if you dont wish to put it on open forum ]
T_T Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 You know what to do then Robbie, a phone call and don't pull any punches. People like this, shouldn't be in the sport. I'm sure if he'd of reported it via the address ring and asked if he could keep it because he liked the youngster, it would now be his. Mind you, not a bad performance from Liverppol, one for the future.
peterpau Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I'm old eneough to know that you can easily get your birds mixed up. I don't have that many, but I am terrible at it if it aint written in front of me it could be anything.
robbie1 Posted September 30, 2008 Author Report Posted September 30, 2008 i rung the rpra and told them about it they dont have a phone number for this person and ive lost it his name is pilkington&sons kirkby liverpool
ribble Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Take it as a compliment, (that he wanted your bird). It's home now forget about it and enjoy your birds.
mushroom Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Perhaps theres been a mix up with the letter before the numbers I would check first before you do anything. I have had birds reported that have had the ring letter wrong.
peterpau Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I too think you should feel honoured that he wanted to keep your bird. He did let it out again, with it's ring intact. It' wouldn't be much good to you, had he kept it in or cut it's ring off.
jimmy white Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 i would be very carefull not to blame ,,, as theres few enough reporting ybs ,, it may be possible the chap did want to keep it,, but he did report it ,, and you could have sent for it,,,,,,,,,,,,but do understand what your saying
Pompey Mick Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I wouldn't have thought he would have reported via the RPRA if he was being that underhand, saying it was skinny as a rake, how would it have looked if you had arranged to have it collected the next day. I have had several cases of misread ring nos over the years, the latest being this year when the finder was adamant he had given the correct No, luckily for me the pigeon was still in my loft. So don't be too hasty in jumping to conclusions before you have had a chance to talk to him.
