the bas*ar* killed one of my birds today the first time i have let them out for two weeks

i only let them out so i could give the loft a good clean as i am off my holidays this week nipped to the shop came back to find all my birds flying all over the place

 

on checking around the back of the loft three birds all huddled together in an old sputnick a bird lying beside with its neck stripped

but still alive i sadly had to put it out is misery

i hope it comes back  :X

sorry to hear that...i saw a hen sparrowhawk strike a  wild dove this afternoon near my loft. it didn't suceed. i loose 3-4 year but i reckon i've been lucky so far and my losses may increase. did you read about the flashing amber beacon that a guy said worked...bhw i think.

earlier in the year Ihad trouble getting some YB s to land so I went in the loft got hold of a old hen opened the door tossed her up,out of nowhere

a hawk took her ,by the time Iwas out of the loft they were gone, I was gutted :(

just hope your ready when it comes back looking for it kill >

Iwould lost 10 to 15 every year with them.

We use one of our hazard beacons from our skip yard it is a 12 volt flashing beacon like on recovery vehicles and on our skip lorries. We tried this system after attacks by the sparrowhawks 07 season and never received a single strike again. The one that we bought was a beacon with a bolt that we then bolted through our racing loft roof its then wired to a car battery on crocadile clips.

You can pick these up in any car shop or parts shop around a tenner remember 12 volt not 24 volt or you would need 2 batteries to work its what we done and it worked a treat no probs with birds owing to them seeing it on when training or flying around the loft.

Came in tonight, missis say that a sparrow hawk had eaten a pigeon on top of the shed next to loft.

That she satyed in and didn't want to watch etc. - understandably.

My birds were in, so was A. a Stray, a late comer or a dobve. No legs etc left just feathers... Dove most likely.

Shame really as I woulod have put a nice sauce on it, like anti freeze for it to come back to.

But yet again just why doesn't the fancy collectively use Pour On invetamin!

Does us, the pigeons and the raptures the world of good!

Indeed could have then offered my heart felt condonacies and a little prayer for the poor Hawk.

normal invetamin does do the job, has to be the pour on type for percy's delight!

Seems reasonable and sensible.
