lollipop Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 Hi there, I'm really hoping someone can help me. I'm looking for a pigeon fancier or club in the Reading or Berkshire area that would be prepared to come and take away some doves/white pigeons that my neighbours are planning to shoot. Someone bought them as pets a few months ago but has not bothered to care for them or keep them in adequate enclosures. As a result the other flat owners in my building have decided to shoot them without having taken any other action. I have called the RSPB, RSPCA, Natural England, Environmental Health and also the police but nobody is prepared to take ation until a crime has been committed - in other words after the birds have been shot. Whilst the people might be prosecuted, this does not save what are incredibly beautiful, healthy white doves/pigeons. If anyone could help please contact via the forum and I'll be in touch asap. Kind regards Louise

pjc Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 Ring Andrew Hitchcock, he's in your area 01753 622863
lollipop Posted October 8, 2008 Author Report Posted October 8, 2008 Ring Andrew Hitchcock, he's in your area and is always looking for new stock. 01753 622863 Thank you I've left a message for Andrew. If anyone else can help please let me know as time is of the essence here! Re: the comment about it being illegal I've looked into it and apparently they might be able to get away with it under some licence but I don't think legalities are going to stop them anyway as they've made it quite clear they're going to go ahead despite my objections.
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 are they able to be cought or are they sleeping on balconeys
lollipop Posted October 8, 2008 Author Report Posted October 8, 2008 are they able to be cought or are they sleeping on balconeys They sleep on my windowsill and the wall just adjacent to my windowsill. They could probably be caught if I had a net and waited quietly for them to settle.
Guest joshdonlan Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 It would be best to wait until the birds are roosting at dark. Maybe if you caught them and got in touch with an animal park or zoo, they would take them??? maybe worth a try???? Good luck! Josh

I have called the RSPB, RSPCA, Natural England, Environmental Health and also the police but nobody is prepared to take ation until a crime has been committed - I know, had to phone Rork Garfield when a door needed kicking in. Told the Police and the RSPCA... They did turn up to prevent me from taking an Alsation *expletive removed* out of a locked house with 8 pups . They'd left a bit of feed and a bowl of water, and they went off on their holiday's. I was ... well never maid that, Phone Rork and he said 'Don't they will possibly prosecute you... Love them to me'! They watch him... turned a blind eye and splutter something 'It needed to be done etc' Never see them unless with a begging bowl after some adverse Press TV COVERAGE. Look up the Animal rescue service. Was once.. Did the Whale boats etc. etc. etc. ALL for nowt. Mind you could tell the police that they are activating a breach of the peace, and disturbance... when they ask why and how, tell them because you'll be busting heads and windows etc. They will have words at least then. Will of course have words with you. You realistically need a couple of wire baskets etc. with a little feed I guess. Louise

lollipop Posted October 9, 2008 Author Report Posted October 9, 2008 Did you get sorted Louise? Not yet unfortunately, I've left a message for a club in Reading I was given the number for and have emailed a couple of other people that I've found email addresses for. Any further help/advice will be much appreciated. Is there any way for example I could tempt them into my flat quite easily or trap them (sounds awful but in a humane way) so that I can take them away somewhere.
OLDYELLOW Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 get an old bean tin or something similar and put some corn it it to rattle if you give the birds a few seeds at a time you could lure them into an over turned box propped up by a couple of sticks attached to some wool or cotton then yank away when birds under it , taking the birds away will be a pointless excercise as they will return . Hope someone closer sorts you out soon . Mark
