Hi,

Can anyone tell me how I would go about getting hold of some good quality birds that wont break the bank. It seems to me that if you want good birds to win you need to pay hundreds of pounds. Surely there must be a cheaper option.

Thanks

HI David

It depends on what you are looking for there are options mate which do not break the bank. you could look local to you and ask a top local fancier for the eggs from his widow cocks for a fair price. or local sales of y/b's for club funds or futurity sales are often a good source of quality birds at a cheap price. or if you want to spend a little more there are always plenty of good birds for sale at a decent price. i honestly think to get decent birds at a fair price the best way is to buy a team of y/b's/latebreds and find the best ones from them.

sorry Mark

did not make my point clear yes i would race any from club sales etc but if i brought y/b's latbreds from a top fancier stud etc i would and do put them to stock and sort them that way over 2 or seasons takes a little longer but the best races are not always the best breeders

First part realistic common sense... the second part real gem. That has to be in your case the number one option. Many the ole timers that add to , or replace their' stock / racers do exactly that.

One loft auctions are a great way but you just never know where good birds come from I bought a bird at our club auction that no one wanted basically I got her because I was in a hurry and was after the next bird no one was bidding so I bid the 25.00 minimum so we could get on with the auction I bred 4 out of her and I still have all 4 and 1 is a race winner

buy some young birds off me and I'll chuck you in a few free as well to help you. If I can win and I'm a total clown I'm sure you can!

Or try someone like Jim Bambling who is a proper pigeon man and sell you decent ones that he races himself.

a good offer better to buy from one loft than several.

wouldnt know about that best success alot of people have is from buying from 2 lofts, keeping them pure, keeping the best, getting rid of the rest, then crossing the 2 familys into each other

most lofts have more than one family, so you can still get them from one loft.
